RE: TV Ratings/Viewership for MAC Bowls
I think that this years' Little Caesar also may have been the least attended Detroit bowl game that I can ever recall. Yeah, I know they announced a decent crowd, but it didn't look that way on TV and of course having a Florida based opponent that brought no fans didn't help much.

I'm not blaming Toledo....it's a combination of factors (opponent, etc.) and no other MAC team would have pulled in more fans, but it was pretty empty looking and I'm sure the bowl officials were not all that pleased. With Nebraska coming on board sure be nice to see B10 team in this game year in and year out.

Odd. I had figured since the NFL game that night was postponed, the LCB would have had a higher viewership. There weren't any other nationally televised sports that night IIRC (at least no other football).

I am sure you don't want to hear it but I am going to go out on a limb and say FIU playing in the game had something to do with it. This was one of the lowest watched LCB in years and the MAC has had a team in every year.

When you have a Sunbelt team (or a MAC team) without a really good record (only .500 or thereabouts) playing in it, the perception is that the teams aren't very good and it won't be an interesting game.

We probably brought around 15,000 down from previous trips to Detroit. Still sad but I understand. I think had Toledo won 10 games or had a better showing on previous ESPN games, we'd brought a tad more. When you only sell 5k out of your 10k allotment, that's not good.

Crain's Detroit Business quoted LCB honcho Ken Hoffman saying there were 37,000 tickets sold the Tuesday prior to the Bowl.

1.7 U.S. Rating and just below the Humanitarian Bowl rating.

I didn't even go and I have (had) never missed a UT Bowl game in my entire lifetime.

So why was this the largest viewing of a New Orleans Bowl game ever? Any theories?

It didn't involve a CUSA team.

Godaddy.com bowl gets bigger ratings than the SEC/B10 matchup... but note that there was only one game the day of the godaddy bowl and several on the Gator Bowl.

Looks like everyone turned off the Gator bowl and went and watched the Outback bowl, since it was the only game competitive after 20 minutes.

RE: TV Ratings/Viewership for MAC Bowls
When one team only brings fans then yeah 37k is good. If we play northwestern... they bring 25k and we have the biggest LCB attendance ever. Think about the bigger attended games, they were all against teams who were both within 1000 miles!

For basically one team attendance thats great. Don't smash Toledo, Smash the bowl comitty for putting a MAC team against a Florida team from the Sun Belt.
