RE: The UCF Knights Thread- All Things UCF and Its Accomplishments
Here is a feature article from the Boston Globe this AM about Marcus Jordan:

Heir style

Marcus Jordan may never be a hoop icon like his father, but he and his team are looking good

Globe Staff / December 22, 2010

ORLANDO — Odds are the starting shooting guard for the University of Central Florida never will become a basketball icon. He may never become an NBA star, or even play at the next level. But there’s no doubt the sophomore is following in his father’s shoes.

See link for complete feature article.

RE: The UCF Knights Thread- All Things UCF and Its Accomplishments
How are tickets sales going for the Liberty Bowl? I've seen it posted that between both UCF & UGA both schools combined have sold about 9,500 tickets. Checked the UCf boards and athletic websites but can't locate anything concerning ticket sales.

Any UCF fan have any information concerning ticket sales to date?

This is typical of UCF (and probably most schools). We're all over the media when we are selling close to 20K tickets for St. Pete, but when things aren't going well, you won't get a peep out of Athletics.

My guess is we've sold 5-7K through the school and another 1K or so through the Liberty bowl (hope more, I know a good number of folks going through the Liberty Bowl to get better seats). My hope and guess is that we would be to bring close to 7500 up to Memphis, but I have no facts to back that up.

Plenty of "big" name schools though seem to be in the same boat with respect to ticket sales:

RE: The UCF Knights Thread- All Things UCF and Its Accomplishments
To follow up, I found an article from last week's Orlando Sentinel:

OS Article

UCF officials said Thursday they have sold about 5,000 tickets so far for the Liberty Bowl and expect to sell another 1,000 to 1,500 by kickoff Dec. 31. School officials reported an influx of fans purchasing tickets from Ticketmaster.com and StubHub.com. UCF continues to encourage fans to buy tickets through the school so that the school gets credit for the valuable transactions. Fans can call 407-823-1000 or visit UCFBowl.com to purchase tickets from UCF.

Pretty much supports my guess of around 7,500 there for the game.

RE: The UCF Knights Thread- All Things UCF and Its Accomplishments
On a Georgia website the UCF AD said that they had sold 4600 tickets and that they would probably end up selling close to 5500 tickets. The UGA AD said that they had sold 4500 tickets and that they projected between 5-6K sold for the game. The UCF number didn't surprise me because the fan base isn't established yet. It was the number of tickets that Georgia sold that surprised me.

Both numbers are surprising, UCF brought about 15,000 to the liberty bowl in 2007. I know being on new years eve the flights are about 300-400 round trip while hotels are 200$ a night. Its an expensive trip this time which is keeping a lot of fans from going.

Since the variable are the same (date of game, hotel and air fare, etc.) and the opponent (Georgia) is arguably a better draw than Mississippi St., what is the word as to why people would go in 2007 but not this year?

RE: The UCF Knights Thread- All Things UCF and Its Accomplishments
This topic is bush league. If expansion candidates can't post updates on their school then why does this board exists? Why not just close this board if it's going to be all big east guys repeating the same thing every day without any insight from people that actually attend or are close to the schools that might be added? I'm sure some posters here or at rivals have changed some people's perception of their school by providing info, pics, etc..that's not possible without input from UCF fans. It's funny how serious you guys take this

the 2007 game wasn't on New Years Eve, it was on the 29th I think so it was a lot cheaper to fly and hotel rates were lower. I went in 07 and can't afford to go this year. Bowl tickets sales are down everywhere and I personally am getting over the bowl system. I want a playoff system..You see how empty the St Pete Bowl was yesterday?

I can't find the exact article on the Georgia site, but here is a link quoting exactly what I saw from the UGA side.

The game in 2007 was on the 29th and flights were significantly cheaper as well as hotel rooms. Everything is more expensive on NYE than even two days before it.

RE: The UCF Knights Thread- All Things UCF and Its Accomplishments
Okay I think I found it. I think knightalum74 read a similar article to the UGA one. The UCF spokesperson said that they have sold under 5K tickets as of December 18th. However they believe they will sell between 6,000 to 6,500 of their allotment. They also believe that around 1000 will be purchased outside of the allotment. So they are guestimating 7,500 fans there.

http://dogbytesonline.com/uga-notebook-t...owl-40260/

Personally, the closer you get to the date the slower the ticket sales get, so I am curious as to how they will sell over a 1000 + of the tickets in their allotment.

I guess being in such a large tv market most of their fans decided to stay home and watch it on the tube. Maybe they are trying a new approach in raising the tv rating for that game.

Since we have no tv market we have to show up in person to see the game.

Dec. 22, 2010

GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina has exhausted its ticket allotment for the 2010 Military Bowl according to an announcement from the ECU Athletics Ticket Office Wednesday morning.

The contest, scheduled for a 2:30 p.m. kickoff on Dec. 29 at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C., will feature the Pirates and Atlantic Coast Conference member Maryland.

East Carolina (6-6, 5-3 C-USA) can guarantee its fifth consecutive winning season with a victory against the Terrapins - a first since the 1975, 1976, 1977, 1978 and 1979 campaigns. ECU is also making an unprecedented fifth-straight bowl appearance. Maryland (8-4, 5-3 ACC), which earned a second-place finish in the ACC's Atlantic Division in 2010, has won two of the last three and four of the last six.

Although tickets in ECU's allotment of 10,000 are no longer available, fans can still purchase tickets at Ticketmaster.com via the official Military Bowl website, all Ticketmaster locations or by calling 800-551-SEAT.

Tickets also can be bought or picked up at the RFK Stadium box office December 27-29. Group orders can be purchased by calling (202) 785-BOWL (2695). Additional information on the Military Bowl and bowl week events can be found at http://www.MilitaryBowl.org or by calling (202) 785-BOWL.

I know it's cliche to blame the economy...but I went in 2007 and cannot go this year because of that very reason. I know 4 other people that don't even have the homes they had in 2007 and it's tough.

Another reason is that the 2007 Liberty Bowl was the first bowl in the continental U.S. for UCF. The first bowl was in Hawaii...so this was our first accessable bowl game and it happend to follow our first conference championship that included a record breaking RB named Kevin Smith. We also averaged 44k in our 45k stadium that year, as well.

The biggest problem with Orlando and UCF is also CUSA. Orlando is born and raised with SEC/ACC hype and National Championships. In CUSA...the best we can do is the Liberty Bowl (with a very slim outside shot at BCS like TCU/Boise St. etc.). So there's also a lot of "been there/done that" this time around. The die-hards will be there that can afford it....but unless UCF is in a BCS conference..that "Liberty Bowl" reward will fickle off more and more.

That's great that you did that...good job! Still won't matter with expansion.

What happens if you guys make it into an AQ conference and go to bowls that are far more expensive and not always in better locations?

Wow you sold out your allotment to a bowl that is easily within driving distance to your campus. We did the same thing last year selling over 18,000 to the St. Pete bowl. Nothing new here.

Also this is the UCF accomplishment thread. Please stop polluting it with your ECU nonsense. You insECUre fans are always trying to include yourselves in our chat topics.

I can whole heartedly understand the first two...the last one is a bunch of hog-wash. If you're telling me that UCF fans only show support when they are given the best there is to offer or something new for the first time then I feel for any conference that brings you in. Apathy because you are above things never works out. Bringing that kind of attitude with a program is a negative, not a positive. It sure doesn't come off as a fanbase that yearns for college football.

PS. Sorry to hear about your friends. Never good to hear stories like that. Hopefully things will get better down in Florida.
