I defy anyone....
to say that the lesser bowls are meaningless. This is what college football is all about. 35 teams get to go into the offseason as champions. Our Huskies are one of those 35! Our team, our community, Coach Tuke and everyone needed this. They had a tremendous bowl experience and will remember this for the rest of their lives.

Proud to be a Huskie!!!

Where's WD? He only come out when there's something for him to gloat and feel superior about? He not like Huskie victory?

We'll remember this game for years. This will a highlight in Huskie memories for a long time. Some irrelevant bowl game.

RE: I defy anyone....
I do think bowl games themselves are meaningless. For example, I am not proud to say we won a bowl game, just am glad we beat a good Fresno State team and finished with 11 wins. Their only meaning is that it is another game on the schedule, but to me doesnt represent post-season significance. And thats mainly because matchups are arbitrary. This year luckily the best MAC opponent go to face the best team of all MAC bowl games, but that is just by chance and rarely happens.

A great night nonetheless, tremendous year for the program. A huge victory over Fresno State and a very meaningful game!

If you strip it down, yeah. That's what this is. A win against a quality opponent on a neutral field.

But there is a trophy, and as the saying goes, "flags fly forever"

awesome win against fresno state. i view fresno as a very similar program to NIU. regional school that achieves great success as a mid-major every now and then, with potential for more.

Starting tomorrow morning the rest of the football world won't give half a damn that NIU won this game. It's a great win, and it feels really good for the NIU fans and bad for the Fresno fans, but at the end of the day it's pretty meaningless to anyone outide either of these programs. Just like say for example the Southern Miss / Louisville bowl game will probably be meaningless for many of us.

Bowl games are arbitrary? What are you guys smoking? NIU just pulled a shaming on Fresno St. on National television. You guys talk up and down about recruitment. This is the best recruitment you could have as a mid-major. Esp with our backstory.

Additionally:
+ we also achieved an 11 win season
+ we may end the season in the top 25
+ our team came together in adversity
+ Jake Coffman had a stand out game on national television
+ Harnish had a stand out game on national television

It means a lot to the young men on the team. They learned much over the last couple of weeks and their performance today and the bowl experience in general will stay with them forever. Growing as men and overcoming adversity as they did are great learning experiences. THAT is what these games should, and are, about.

I don't think that's a good way to look at it. Right now, no one gives a damn about Auburn and Oregon. Out of sight, out of mind. Sure, we'll be there soon but we acquitted ourselves very well in the national spotlight tonight and have a ton of momentum going into 2011.

I could not have said it better! This bowl game & win was good all around. I am so proud and happy for the team and the remaining coaching staff that pulled it all together in spite of what they faced since the MACC game. Well done Huskies!!!!!!
