It is my opinion that when Japan grew into a technical and economic powerhouse in the 1970s/1980s, the US could compete b/c of their superior universities.

It seems to me that the Asian countries have come to similar conclusions, and are making their universities into world class institutions.

US students probably get drunk more

Well, you'll feel better knowing these rankings are bogus. A full 1/3 of your score comes out of the irrelevant-to-quality metrics of:

- # of International faculty
- # of International students

I also find the faculty-student ratio to be a dubious inclusion.
