What does Manning expect.. the Ritz Carlton?
Put him in with the rest of the prisoners in the Brig, and the little worm would last about 15 seconds.

Bradley Manning, the 22-year-old U.S. Army Private accused of leaking classified documents to WikiLeaks, has never been convicted of that crime, nor of any other crime. Despite that, he has been detained at the U.S. Marine brig in Quantico, Virginia for five months -- and for two months before that in a military jail in Kuwait -- under conditions that constitute cruel and inhumane treatment and, by the standards of many nations, even torture. Interviews with several people directly familiar with the conditions of Manning's detention, ultimately including a Quantico brig official (Lt. Brian Villiard) who confirmed much of what they conveyed, establishes that the accused leaker is subjected to detention conditions likely to create long-term psychological injuries.

Since his arrest in May, Manning has been a model detainee, without any episodes of violence or disciplinary problems. He nonetheless was declared from the start to be a "Maximum Custody Detainee," the highest and most repressive level of military detention, which then became the basis for the series of inhumane measures imposed on him.

From the beginning of his detention, Manning has been held in intensive solitary confinement. For 23 out of 24 hours every day -- for seven straight months and counting -- he sits completely alone in his cell. Even inside his cell, his activities are heavily restricted; he's barred even from exercising and is under constant surveillance to enforce those restrictions. For reasons that appear completely punitive, he's being denied many of the most basic attributes of civilized imprisonment, including even a pillow or sheets for his bed (he is not and never has been on suicide watch). For the one hour per day when he is freed from this isolation, he is barred from accessing any news or current events programs. Lt. Villiard protested that the conditions are not "like jail movies where someone gets thrown into the hole," but confirmed that he is in solitary confinement, entirely alone in his cell except for the one hour per day he is taken out.

In sum, Manning has been subjected for many months without pause to inhumane, personality-erasing, soul-destroying, insanity-inducing conditions of isolation similar to those perfected at America's Supermax prison in Florence, Colorado: all without so much as having been convicted of anything. And as is true of many prisoners subjected to warped treatment of this sort, the brig's medical personnel now administer regular doses of anti-depressants to Manning to prevent his brain from snapping from the effects of this isolation.

Hmm, Ok. He committed treason during a war that could have cost lives. Line his ass up and shoot him.

There, no more discomfort.

Libs make no sense. They want to silence conservative AMERICANS like Rush, Hannity, etc., but they are ardent supporters of this douche's rights to speak out and spill our secrets all over the place.

We have an enemy within the gates.

I'm calling BS on this all by itself. Probably written by someone whose never seen where he has been held, NOR any OTHER places in the world...

I suppose Monaco and Aruba would consider it inhumane. I'm betting Mexico, anywhere in South America or Africa, Russia, China, Korea, the Middle East, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, any former Soviet state would consider it luxury.

Me too. We have lawyers screaming about the terrorists at Gitmo and not a single lawyer has spoken out about Manning. Instead, the first I hear of it is on this board and through a link I can't open. I'm sure if he was being mistreated the ACLU would be all over it.

Anyway, he turned on the military and the country....if any of this is true then all I can say is what did he expect if he got caught, a parade in his honor?

The link works.

Under the UCMJ, Manning has already been appointed counsel. So far no reports that his counsel is disputing his conditions of confinement. His counsel can do that.

By the way, there is no "Bail" or "Bond" under the UCMJ.

And if you put this worm where he has interaction with other prisoners, Manning would be dead within 4 hours.

I'm still not sure why/how he had access to this information.

Manning had access to SIPRNET while he was an Intelligence Analyst in Iraq.

RE: What does Manning expect.. the Ritz Carlton?
Given that Manning may be in possession of more that information which has not been disclosed, it seems reasonable to prevent him from communicating with the outside world. And remember, Manning felt so strongly that these secrets should be revealed to the world that he didn't care who it hurt. So I cannot weep that it came back to hurt him as well.

Plus, the likelihood that there would be a prolonged, illegal campaign of abuse in such a visible place like Quantico is remote. Not impossible, but remote. Manning will have his day in court, and his claims of mistreatment can be addressed there, not on the webpage of a partisan hack like Glenn Greenwald (of all fuckking people!?!)

Having access to SIPRNET means nothing. I have access to both, but all sites are still access restricted. Just because someone has access to SIPRNET doesn't mean they have access to everything happening on SIPRNET. MOST SIPRNET communications come in the form of transactions.

True, he didn't have access to "everything" unless there was criminally negligent security protocol breaches going on. But the CID has him dead in the sights on the leak of the gunship video. Maybe they are keeping him on ice because there are others in the US Military involved in leaks that he knows about that who haven't been identified?

The Diplomatic Leaks seem to be typical comunications from an Embassy or in Washington.

You know the Security Departments have their polygraph people working overtime.
