Who replaces UCF, if they're invited...
Just wondering what the word is, would CUSA stay in FLA or go after Temple, LaTech etc?

There has been some speculation that MTSU has had off the record discussions with CUSA, or at the very least that they would be first on the list...

RE: Who replaces UCF, if they're invited...
If UCF does get an invite to the Big East for 2012, I think C-USA would look at the following to make their decision (assuming they want to get back to 12):
Middle Tennessee
FAU
FIU
Temple

I would think Temple would be the top choice if they agreed to move for all sports, but I don't see that happening. I don't see C-USA issuing any football only invites.

If Charlotte had been able to get their football program off the ground more quickly (I don't think they start FCS play until 2013), I'm sure they would have been in the running as well.

Georgia State might also be a dark horse candidate.

Couldn't blame Temple if that was their decision -- they would be one of only three eastern time zone schools out of 12 schools in that league.

Truthfully all the options kinda suck. The F_U's are garbage, LA Tech is a waste of time, and the other Suck-Belt teams just plain suck. Temple would be the best choice, but who knows if they would come all sports.

Come on seriously? They are garbage too and no one cares about them. I am tired of playing teams who can't consistently put at least 25k butts in the seats.

Although, I would rather have Appalachian St. because it would give ECU an instate rival and one that is closer than our nearest conference rival in Marshall.

If we were going the FCS route at least go App State, who actually cares about football and puts butts in the seats. I don't want to add another do nothing team who plays in front of stands that are 2/3's empty, we already have about 8 teams who fit that bill.

They haven't been good since that coach left for San Fran a few years ago. The one year I had them marked as an upset team for the tourney, except they played Louisville who I picked for the Final Four (which they made).

If Temple is serious about Football they should take an all sports invite. CUSA is not that much better/worse than the A-10 for BB and is better for most other sports and CUSA >>>> MAC for football. You need look no further for proof of that than the fact that 8-4 Temple is sitting at home this season.

If the BE passes on Temple I think CUSA is their best option.

Leave it to a Hole to talk bball when I am talking football. I want a member who gives a crap about football and has fans that give a crap about football. App State is the only team that would join that fits that bill.

RE: Who replaces UCF, if they're invited...
I doubt MTSU would ever get into the league as long as Memphis is in place.

If UCF is the team leaving, it seems to me that CUSA would be likely to look first at FAU/FIU to maintain a presence in Florida. Looks like both of them have nice stadium plans, and both are in nice locations. Obviously the fan support isn't there yet, but an elevation to CUSA and playing people like ECU, Southern Miss, etc. on a regular basis rather than the likes of ULM, Arkansas State, etc. would surely help. I think CUSA needs to think long-term potential, rather than who might be best on the field over a short-term span.

Temple would have to decide if they value football enough to take a huge risk with their basketball team by leaving the Atlantic 10. An 8-4 Temple football team in C-USA would never be sitting at home for the holidays. As for basketball, I think a C-USA with Temple and Memphis as the basketball focused anchor teams could consistently be a 3-bid league.

If App St. was added to the Sunbelt today they would have the highest attendance of any team in the league. I agree with you. App cares about football and that is what matters most.

They are currently doing a feasibility study about moving up. I haven't heard anything about the results of that, though. Like you, I tend to think they will decide to stay in FCS much like Georgia Southern has done several times in the past when studying the idea.
