It is my guess that a Fleck or Hammock will not end up on the coaching staff. Of course, I could be wrong...

I just posted in another thread regarding this. Hopefully Compher suggested that Doeren consider Hammock or Fleck for coordinator/assistant positions, but didn't press too hard about it. I don't think it would be a good idea to force our new HC to hire someone he may be completely unfamiliar with. I'd be excited if they were involved though.

RE: It's Dave Doeren
359.. Hammock will be relatively cheap, has coached at Wisconsin (before Doeren got there) and at Minnesota against him. He was successful in his short stint as an OC, but not so successful he won't be available. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if he got consideration for the job. It's not like Doeren is going to take Wisconsin's OC, he'll have to find one. The guy with NIU ties who was rated a top ten recruiter in the Big 10 who has been an OC seems like as logical a choice as anyone out there.

Fleck is probably a bit more of a long shot.

The couple mentions in the broadcast of him taking over NIU will be nice.

I wonder/hope if some sort of arrangement is in place where he works on game prep and practices with them, and work on recruiting for us.

Also hoping he can peel a couple Badger assistants to come with him. I'm sure we're about to see guys who were either assitants or GAs at Wisconsin in the last few years on staff.

i am sure he will be getting his staff in place and some of them can be at the Y Center getting recruiting together. I am sure he has been on the phone to our verbals calming them down. Remember, after this week I believe there is a 2 week blacout time for recruiting

I want my head coach to get on his staff who he wants period. No need to get ex players, just the best group you can get

So, any ideas on who he might hire to coach with him? Has anyone followed him from previous jobs to Wisconsin? DB coach or DL coach for example? Do we keep our QB coach, he seems to really know what he's doing, could he be the new OC? Lots of questions to be answered still. What timeline do you think we'll see on his hiring of assistants?

don't be surprised to see matt canada back

It's the right way to do it! It shows integrity.

INTEGRITY. Yes. Something we haven't seen since Dec. 5th. Glad he's sticking with the Badgers thru the Rose Bowl.

I think the blackout starts on the 20th, so he's got a week to contact. The blackout lifts on Jan 3rd.

The supreme goal is to get to the MACC and win the damn thing. He needs to do that with a coaching staff that he is comfortable with. We have not won the MACC in modern times, and it has been very disappointing. We need a coach who can get us there. No matter who it is, if the next coach can do that, he should be anointed as a Huskie god.

Agreed. It would be nice to have Fleck back. But, I want a staff that my head coach has full confidence in. I hope he does the kind of job that will lead him to get offers from BCS schools in 3-5 years. Get us competing for the MACC year in, year out. Get us in top 25 consideration each year. With solid recruiting, there's no reason we can't get to that point. Let's just hope he doesn't say he's a recruiting machine today. And I hope I don't hear any stories about his wife not choosing him right away.

And then if he wants to lead us into a BCS at-large next season, I'm fine with that too.

I'm excited to have him as our coach.

One of my co-workers played for Doeren at Drake. He says Doeren was his best coach and is a great guy. He also said Chris Ash might tag along.

LOL - Everyone was pissed about Kill not being devoted to NIU while preparing for the MACC. Now everyone is saying he Doeren should be pulling double duty.

Sure. Hopefully he'll be recruiting for NIU while he's still with Wisconsin. At least I hope that's what he'll be doing.

Bring PJ in as the assistant head coach/head coach in waiting/WR coach and Hammock as the OC. I'd be very satisfied with that staff.

No head coach in waiting. Doeren is a young guy that is qualified for the job and should be given a fair shake before we try to replace him.

RE: It's Dave Doeren
? Numbers.. it seems like it's almost unanimous that people are happy he's staying at Wisconsin for the bowl game. To suggest he spend a little time calling recruits is a lot different than wanting the guy to abandon his old team.

Tuba.. I don't think it's a slight. We want him to be so successful he replaces us with a better job. It's not like we're finding a replacement for the guy for when he gets fired. We want him to be too good for the position. He should be flattered if we have a long term plan that includes "Dave Doeren moves up to much better job in 3-5 years."

RE: It's Dave Doeren
I REALLY like this hire. Dave Doeren gets very high marks wherever he's been during his coaching ladder climb. I am relieved that Jeff Compher hired from the bin of "best and brightest" for this job and didn't get bogged down in hiring a dullard whose life ambition is to coach in the MAC until he dies.

Doeren is the type of recruiter and coach who should get things done at NIU. Win us a MAC Championship (or two) and I could care less if he moves on to greener pastures. In fact, all NIU fans should root that he does because it will mean he achieved GREAT things with the NIU Huskies.

Excellent hire. Kudos Jeff Compher.
