Not really all that surprising considering the source of the thread.

The boy who cried expansion, coaching searches, and wonders of the world.

Gruden is committed to ESPN until Jerry Jones gives him a call.

Miami Herald: ``I understand that you are committed to ESPN. I was just wondering why you met with University of Miami athletic director Kirby Hocutt, then?''

Jon Gruden: "This was just an exploratory meeting and there was nothing ever really serious about this".

Miami Herald: "Was there anything, though, that did intrigue you about the coaching job there?''

Jon Gruden: "No. We never really got into the actual specifics of the coaching job. That was not something that I wanted to do. I'm excited with where I am and that's the bottom line.

``It was very exploratory, and if I can help Kirby and the Hurricanes find the right guy I'm here to help him do that.''

But...but...but...it was a done deal and they were only hammering out salaries for assistants. How can this be?

Mike Leach is now actively campaigning for the Miami HC job. He and his family live in Key West because he thinks he's a pirate. He's been on local talk radio and Donald Trump has even sent a letter vouching for him to Miami's prez.

What a circus.

An insider on 560 this morning told Wolo that he was still hearing Mark Richt, despite any denials. He's a Miami grad and might get out of Georgia while the gettin's good. He also mentioned a guy getting looks from within is Mike Cassano.

RE: Jon Gruden getting closer!
Miami's fanbase are definitely the most bandwagon jumping fanbase there is, with the exception of those who actually attended the school. This means that, in years that Miami is bad or mediocre, they pay attention to other teams or don't watch CFB at all. Alot of the fans don't know about guys like Mullen, Petrino, Peterson, etc. (read: the better/ more realistic hires). I've heard Richt (no thanks), Tubberville (worse than RIcht), Howard Schnellenberger (the guy is 80) and Bobby Bowden (I don't even need to comment) mentioned as possible candidates. Miami fans are an odd bunch.

No thanks to Richt. He's been practically fired by UGA and who was the last BCS retread coach to have success at another d1 program, much less a BCS school. Tubberville? Nope. Nutt? Nope. Ty Willingham? Nope.

If Leach was not suing his former employer at the moment, that might actually be a good pick for the U. They are a lot of ex-assistants from Miami who might be interested in that job anyway, but it might be a little way before they hired someone in the end.

Miami was the ugly girl who first couple of people she wanted to go out to the prom were not interested in her, so had to go to the safe person she knew would say yes. That is why Florida picked a good defensive coordinator and did not go after a big name coach from a major university.
