Joseph Addison once wrote, "He who hesitates is lost."...

Gregory Y. Titelman was the first American to use the phrase, adding "Swift and resolute action leads to success; self-doubt is a prelude to disaster."...

Villanova is hesitating, which could make possibly them a lost cause - or a disaster waiting to happen...

Wouldn't be surprised at all. Even Jim Calhoun understands that his school needs to do what's best for football in order to support basketball. Boeheim, on the other hand, wants to create a 6-team basketball league made up of Syracuse, UConn, Providence, St. John's, Villanova and Georgetown and let the football team and all other sports become independent again.

When your basketball program has 39 straight winning seasons and has been an attendance leader for 30 years while holding most on-campus attendance records come talk to Syracuse.

Frankly, that doesn't mean anything. UofL is also top 5 in attendance every year, has maybe 3 losing seasons since WWII, and has a superior basketball history to Syracuse, yet Louisville understands that basketball is not driving the bus and that we need more than 8 football members.

That's not an indictment of all Syracuse fans here, or even the Orange AD office, as I don't have full information there. It's clear from his public comments though that Boeheim "doesn't get it".

Since when is doing your due diligence called "hesitating"? Apparently the initial contact with TCU was made more than 2 months ago, back in September. Were they hesitating?

The Big Ten made its announcement about studying expansion last December. They took almost 6 months to make a decision. Were they hesitating?

We also don't know whether Villanova has already made a decision. There's a difference between making the decision & announcing it.

Add to that being the most profitable basketball program 20 years running, and being one of the few teams to make more money at the gate from basketball than football. UofL actually made more profit in basketball than they made in football revenue last year.

Villanova has had an open invite to upgrade since 1997, when UConn was given the same opportunity. They've had that invitation waiting for them since. That's over a decade, which in my book allows more than enough time for due diligence, which should have been done by now if the school were even remotely considering upgrading...

I think now it's take the invite or leave it - and forget about getting another...

Add in USF and it only gets worse. If 3 of the 4 ooc games consist of the 3 other Florida schools in the BCS, there won't be any national championships for Florida schools any time soon. If UCF joins the party, something is going to have to give in the ooc scheduling department for all these programs.

The Big 3 in Florida will continue to play each other. UF-FSU every year, UM-FSU every year, and UF-UMiami every 4 years and they will be just fine.

USF may get a series signed every now and again with a "Big 3" but it won't be continous and it sure isn't a rivalry...

You're right, it isn't a rivalry, but with every USF win, it gets closer and closer to being one. Right now, USF has won 2 against the so called big 3. If that number becomes 5 or 6, you will see that it is becoming a rivalry between USF and "big 3" schools. Don't you think losing to USF left a bad taste in FSU and UM's mouth. Don't you think they would like to beat USF to prove it was a fluke. I think the series will be more than "now and again". Although USF won't play UM, FSU, or UF annually, I do think you will see USF play at leaste ONE of those 3 annually on a rotating basis.

So would you say UCF/USF is a rivalry since UCF beat USF 2 of the last 3 times in Men's Basketball 03-wink.

(the last win the same day UCF beat USF in the 1st round of the Men's Soccer NCAAs..)

Anyways Ill be happy when the expansion is announced the league needs it.By the way it wil be hilarious seeing all the UCF posters singing the praises of the Big East if they get in after al this years of bashing it. LOL

Hey...were not all haters. But the Big East is surely struggling right now. But I still think UCF and the Big East would benefit from UCF joining the conference. I'd love to see a real rivalry between UCF and USF. I'm sure the games would sell out in UCF's 45000 seat stadium. It is apparent the Big East has to do something to elevate it's football program and Villanova isn't the answer. UCF has fantastic potential being the second largest university in the country.

UCF doesn't elevate the BE's football program. You guys are doing great in CUSA, but every other team in the BE has done more than UCF has done in the past several years. Every other team other than Cuse has been ranked in the top 15 recently. TCU elevates the BE profile. UCF adds potential, adds a potential rivalry, and adds another game to the schedule, but doesn't elevate anything. They're no better than anyone in the BE now. UCF lost to the only 2 BCS teams they played this year, so I don't think they would have the same record playing a BE schedule. That said, Nova doesn't elevate anything either, and I can see the argument against them and for UCF, but they are a special case since they are already a member.

The only team that is elevating BE football is TCU... and they don't even play in the Big East yet!!!03-nutkick
