I guess another way to look the it is where did null playoff teams rank in salary...although that would be a lot of research.

World Series winners ranks the year they won...
2013 Boston 4
2012 SF 8
2011 STL 11
2010 SF 7
2009 NYY 1
2008 Philliy 13
2007 Boston 2

My guess is that most of the 8-10 playoff teams per year were all in the top half...most...not all...and certainly not TB. Spending still likely matters.
