Sub is correct. Its bodies through gates. There were 30K there in the first half on Saturday night.
So last year when we had 35,105 for the West Virginia game, and the next home game (Illinois) we had 35,106, and the game previous where 35,100 showed up, those were actual fans in the stadium? I find that very hard to believe especially when I know of some tickets that were floating as no shows for the Illinois game. It is anybody's guess how many people were at the Marshall game a couple of years ago, but that had to do with Students not required tickets back then.
I am just saying, that with a sellout, they pull a number out of a hat, often at capacity, but it is a statistical impossibility that every seat is taken.
Fans are not the only ones counted in those numbers. They also often throw in staff members and such. They can always say they have one more staff member to inflate the sell out total by one. It also makes up for a an empty seat here or there. For the most part though, the number they announce is the number of fans through the gate.

Was it staff day at Nippert on Saturday? That was tickets sold if I've ever seen it.
