WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Six Virginia Commonwealth University men's soccer players received All-Colonial Athletic Association honors Thursday night at the conference's annual postseason awards banquet.
VCU joined top-seed William & Mary as the only two schools to have multiple first-team selections with seniors C.J. Gehin-Scott (pictured, right) and Lucas Paulini (pictured, left) garnering recognition. Senior Thomas Hupper, classmate Jake Van Yahres and freshman Jason Johnson were each named to the All-CAA third team, while Johnson and fellow freshman Romena Bowie received All-Rookie honors.
Gehin-Scott had his best season as a Ram leading the team and ranking sixth in the CAA with 18 points (career-high eight goals and two assists), including four game-winning goals. Paulini, meanwhile, helped solidify the VCU midfield and quickly gained respect from opposing coaches after spending just one season in the CAA.
Hupper helped make VCU's back line one of the best in the conference. Along with posting eight shutouts, the Rams allowed a league-low 13 goals, including a CAA-best 0.66 goals against average.
Van Yahres was a consistent force up front and finished his final season at VCU with four goals and a team-high five assists, while Johnson provided a spark off the bench with four goals and three assists in his first collegiate season. It didn't take Bowie long to make an impression in the midfield either as he saw action in 16 games with 12 starts.
