Hey, we do the same thing in Putnam!

True story:

My department is hiring a new Ph. D. in Appied Economics and we interviewed yesterday.

Everything was going great with one of the candidates until she put up the a slide intended to give us some bacground on her that included the UCF pegasus thing. I audibly said, "Oh, no, not UCF." I had really liked her presentation to that point. 03-wink

(Take it easy ka-niggets. I really liked her and think she may get the job.)

Don't hire her... she is clueless if she thought she could use that slide at an ECU presentation...

Worthless!! Oh...... you mean like your game tickets.

You actually think it makes you look better that a sponsor is having to bribe people to come to your games??

Meh. I've seen more embarrassing press releases before.

In fact, I think I've seen 2 or three this year alone from the desk of Terry Holland....

ORANGE COUNTY COMMISSION PROCLAIM SATURDAY “CHEER THE UCF KNIGHTS TO
VICTORY DAY”
The proclamation was announced at Tuesday’s County Commission meeting

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) – The Honorable Richard T. Crotty, Mayor
of Orange County, issued a proclamation at Tuesday morning’s Orange County
Commission meeting announcing that Saturday, November 13, 2010 will be
proclaimed “Cheer The UCF Knights To Victory Day”, in salute of the
school’s Conference USA noon showdown against Southern Miss at Bright House
Networks Stadium.

The proclamation reads:

WHEREAS, the University of Central Florida recently surpassed Ohio
State University in size of enrollment making UCF the 2nd largest
University in the nation; and

WHEREAS, the UCF Knights football team is on track for its best
season ever at the NCAA Division I level with a perfect 5-0 record in
Conference USA; and

WHEREAS, for the first time in history, the UCF Knights are the
highest ranked college football team in Florida ahead of traditional
powerhouses such as the University of Florida Gators, the Florida
State Seminoles and the Miami Hurricanes, according to college
football coaches; and

WHEREAS, UCF debuted in the Associated Press poll at number 25; and

WHEREAS, during its current five game winning streak, UCF has doubled
its opponents on the scoreboard 207 – 103 while averaging 41.4 points
per game; and

WHEREAS, if UCF can win its final regular season home game against
Southern Miss on Saturday, the Knights will most assuredly clinch the
East Division slot in the 2010 Conference USA championship game on
December 4th; and

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Richard T. Crotty, by virtue of the authority
vested in me as Orange County Mayor, do hereby proclaim Saturday,
November 13, 2010 as Cheer the UCF Knights to Victory Day in Orange
County, Florida and urges all community spirited citizens to pack
Bright House Networks Stadium with UCF fans for Saturday’s big game
against the Golden Eagles of Southern Miss.

DONE AND ORDERED this 9th day of November, 2010.

The proclamation was then signed by Mayor Crotty; S. Scott Boyd,
Commissioner, District 1; Frederick C. Brummer, Commissioner, District 2;
Lui Damiani, Commissioner, District 3; Linda Stewart, Commissioner,
District 4; Bill Segal, Commissioner, District 5; Tiffany Moore Russell,
Commissioner, District 6.

###

The Knights will host Conference USA East Division rival Southern Miss on
Saturday, Nov. 13 at Bright House Networks Stadium. The game is the final
regular season home game for UCF and the team’s annual Senior Day, saluting
18 student-athletes just prior to the noon kickoff. Excellent seats are
still available to the game and can easily purchased online at
UCFAthletics.com, by phone at (407) 823-1000 or in person at the ticket box
office on the west side of Bright House Networks Stadium.

For this game, fans also have the option of purchasing the “UCF Fan Pack
Built by Centex” for $20, including a ticket for one of the biggest games
of the season located in sections 217-219, a hot dog, box of popcorn and a
soft drink…a packaged valued over $35!

For the latest news on the Knights, log on to UCFAthletics.com - the
official site for UCF varsity sports. The site, which also contains ticket
and Golden Knights Club donor information, is also the home of UCF's new
online apparel store.

Whether you win by 1 or 40 a lose is a lose. UCF fans should understand this concept considering their record against BCS opponents. Then again, UCF fans love moral victories like barely losing to kansas st and NCSU. Yeah it hurt to get pounded but in the scheme of things it makes little difference what the score was. Now go tell your mayor to get back on the street corner for UCF.

What's wrong with having specials and promotions? I guess advertising and mayor support is small time? At least we're not giving away $5 seats...although I wish we would.

From the desk of Terry Holland:

Dear ECU fans and boosters,

It has come to my attention recently that UCF (the team in which we were able to score 30+ points against) has enlisted the support of the city Mayor. Although we do not have the support of the Mayor of Greenville (UNC fan) we do want to point out that Texas has not had their Mayor release a statement about their teams this year. Therefore, we should rest easy knowing we are in the same company as the University of Texas.

Signed,

Terry Holland.

So...will the USM game sell out on Saturday? UCF has done everything short of using cardboard cutouts to fill the seats, and yet I don't think they have even come close to a SELL out (not counting freebie tix) in what is arguably one of (if not THE) best seasons in their program's history.

All flaming aside, what gives?

Young fanbase, ticket prices, game times, etc. etc. Reality is our main fanbase is not 45k and won't be in time for the game saturday. Yeah, we'll get some casual guys who like to see the # next to our name, but we have the same problems the rest of the league (including ECU before the last 3 or 4 years) have.

ECU fans become more defensive and pathetic by the day.

I suppose the Mayor of Greenville, NC would promote something like this:

"Come Cheer ECU Day, Because Really- There's Nothing Else to Do!"

How many do you expect to come back after sitting through the 76pts Navy hung on you guys? I believe only about 1,500 remained for the whole game, so you're probably lucky the others left before it got too out of hand.

The next home game will hurt attendance anyways with it being on black friday, but hopefully we can win the next two games to help that out.
