Recent Developements - everyone has an opinion afterall
I'd like to know where you guys stand on these things.

1 USF: I never liked them. Birmingham experiance pushed it sloser to hate. As I sit here and watch an empty stadium on another week night... I have to say the Big East blew it when they took USF. Louisville, Cincy, and then USF... it was a forced round of expansion but getting passed up for USF burned us all. At the time of that expansion... if USF and UCF were both in CUSA what do yall think would have happened? I was always surprised by how much those two fight against each other rather than working together to advance their causes. Of course ever mentioning UNC-Charlotte or Appy State joing CUSA makes me nautious so I guess its something similar for them.

1+ - Skip Holtz should be really thrilled about the great gameday atmosphere them boys in Tampa have going for them. Im beyond grateful for his time and success here.

2 - The Big East is 3/8s former CUSA Members... and I go over to their forums and I see comments about how they need to make a bigger splash than adding some CUSA schools. Last I checked Louisville and TCU left CUSA as hot programs... guess which one did worse... and then guess which one got more money.

Louisville
Cincy
Memphis
USF
UCF
Houston
TCU
ECU
USM

would WVU accept an invite? Pitt / UConn / Syracuse / Rutgers
(sorry UAB and Tulane... but i guess we could bring you in to give us that 16 team superconference)

3 - I think it should be said that the Seton Hall rumors are probably condtional to whether they have to resort to sending lil ole ECU an invite. You can't have two Pirates battling each other... its part of the code.

^ Stick to the code LOL

*************

The MWC and CUSA will merge in some way after the BE gets what they want from CUSA because none of the members want to go back DOWN from CUSA/MWC to the WAC, Sun Belt, or MAC.

I would like to start a rumor :)

Big East has a coming to god moment...

Invites go out to Texas Christian, Boston College, Notre Dame, and Wake Forest - teams all agree to do so as long as they only have to schedule five conference games a year.

BYU remains a solid back-up option. If they give up mormonism then Big East agrees to move to 14 by pushing up Liberty.

What do y'all think? - I'm thinking about sending this rumor out tomorrow and seeing if i can get anyone to actually believe it.
I guess SMU might feel left out, but TCU wouldn't like them to come along...
Am I forgetting any other religiously focused schools?

SO the Big East is currently in a position to fix everything.

Yes - they have invited Villanova... and of course want Notre Dame.
And TCU is a sexy pick-up right now so here it is everyone:

Big East just needs to do something major in order to regain status
and contract monies... and seeing as how sports bloggers clearly
aren't required to be intelligent... here is my logic.

The Big East needs to make a drastic move and become a 14 team
conference!

Invitations will go out to Nova and TCU, and Notre Dame... AND
Boston College, Wake Forest and Vanderbilt.
These six religious-based institutions will join Syracuse to
comprise one division of the Big East: USF, WVU, Louisville, Cincy,
Pitt, UConn and Rutgers will comprise the other.

Teams will only play one cross divional game to allow Notre Dame 5
OOC games and allow Vandy and Wake enough dates to keep old
rivalries intact.

The ACC stands pat at 10. Big Ten, Big Twelve, PAC 12 also stand
pat. The SEC, left with 11 teams, adds East Carolina. AirForce
replaces ECU in CUSA and the WAC and MWC merge. Only Indys
remaining are BYU, ARMY ad NAVY.

There you go everyone. The first dominoes are alreay falling
correctly so no need for doom and gloom
I solved all of College Football's problems : I nominate myself for a Nobel and for High Times Man of the Year

Wake forest will never.....NEVER leave the ACC those rivalry's mean way to much to that school. I can see Vandy maybe going to the big east so maybe they can get into a bowl at least. Cuz lord knows they arnt gona get in playing that SEC schedule every year. Notre Dame will get a offer but they wont take it until that National television deal with ABC is up. BC maybe but i relay don't see it happening. I think if those 16 team super conferences come to be than the ACC will absorb some of the BIG EAST teams, or they will combine into some new football conf.

ECU moving would depend on a lot of factors. The Big east moving so far down the totem poll that they run in to us as a last minute pick up. and from the rumors im hearing the Big East only wants to add 2 teams 4 max. I think that it will end up being TCU and Nova. The Big East is laying in wait for a few more years to pick up teams after a big conf goes under they could grab baylor out of the big 12 and a couple other random teams. The big east needs to become a cash conf before it can add some of the big boys to its line up.

FINAL TAKE: Big East is a fairly sorry football conf right now and needs to build a resume before adding some of the big boys. By adding a great team like TCU and a good 1AA team like nova that is a good foundation for when the super conf's finally come around. (hint: i think with in 10 years we could see 4 super conf's and a play off system)

RE: Recent Developements - everyone has an opinion afterall
Here's what I think happens, with as few detailed predictions as possible...

TCU is going to the BE and Villanova will announce their move up to FBS and the BE at the beginning of the year. Then the BE will hold pat because they are waiting to see what happens next.

The Big 10 made it very clear during the expansion over the summer that they wanted to go to 14-16 teams and I don't think they are done yet, they are just waiting for the football season to end before starting again. Assuming that is correct, they invite at least 2-3 (UCONN/'Cuse/Rutgers) schools from the BE and 1-2 (Mizzou/Iowa State) schools from the Big 12. That knocks the BE down to 7-8 schools and the Big 12 down to 8-9 schools.

The SEC moves in for the kill and raids the Big 12. Do they take 4 from the Big 12? I dunno, but they do take enough to eliminate a competitor. The Big 12 is left with 4-7 (?) schools. Texas goes indy, the rest scatter to a combination of the PAC-10/MWC/CUSA. I get kind of foggy here because math is hard.

The ACC, seeing the writing on the wall, moves to go to 14-16 and kills off the BE, taking some or all of WVU/Louisville/USF/Pitt. The BE is dead, the few remaining former BE football schools scatter to the winds, maybe landing in a revamped CUSA/MWC/MAC/WAC/SBC mish-mash that makes all a little more geographically compact.

We're now down to 4 "power conferences", with CUSA and the MWC probably ending being in about the same position, power wise, as they were before all this started, the WAC falling to the level of the SBC (or being killed off completely and there being some kind of SBC/WAC merger), and the MAC being...well, the MAC.

My dream in the above scenario would be that, as part of the SEC or ACC expansion, ECU gets an invite, but hard as I try to imagine it, I just can't see it happening. Because of all the changes, and because the FBS landscape has changed and only 4 AQ conferences remain, the BCS rules would probably change to allow 2-4 non-AQ teams in every year to make it appear more fair.

There ya go. I stand by none of this, and have no idea what I'm talking about.

With each move the Big East makes, it loses confidence with me it knows what it is doing to make itself better. How do you go to 17 in basketball unless you are planning on going to 18.

How do you even work out the agendas of the bball only schools?

I almost don't want to be a member now....they have worse leadership than CUSA but what they do have is BCS money.

It wouldn't shock me if they invite more teams by February or so, picking from a combination of a few of the Big 12 teams that are left and unhappy with the direction of their conference and/or a couple of CUSA teams (UCF/ECU/Houston). We would accept an invite, of course, but I would be on pins and needles for a while waiting to see what the other BCS conferences might do.

Thinking about this more, if the BE could convince some or all of Mizzou/Kansas/Kansas State to join them, they would likely be protecting themselves from futher raids by the Big 10/ACC. That move would probably satisfy all current BE members, up the revenue, and keep their eyes from wandering. The ACC could potentially be stuck at 12 for a while and if the Big 10 wanted to expand they would have to convince the Texas schools to join.

Unfortunately for the BE, I think they will continue to try to placate the basketball schools, and, in doing so, they will eventually lose their football conference.

Its beginning to appear that Notre Dame will be the next domino.
BUT these rumors are then stipulating on Army and Navy as Football Only Members...
I guess that would work instead of Wake/Vandy... but hmmmm... Boston College....

Our opinions are all irrelevant in all this but I'm curious:
Say you're the ACC and you lose Boston College. What do you do?

Stay at 11?

I don't think the ACC would ever invite us for the fact that NC would have 5 members..pretty big voting block there.

After seeing all this the BE's add of TCU doesn't seem like enough to me. I see them getting poached pretty bad here in a few years. ECU as much as i wish they would get a invite from the ACC or SEC i just don't see it happening.

But back to the big east They are sending 8-4 U CONN to there BCS bowl thats pathetic. I would not be shocked if they send another team like that to a BCS game they get striped of the AQ bid. The only thing i see saving them is a addition of ND because the NCAA loves ND.

Plus someone made interesting thought about Texas going indy i haven't thought about that but if the big 12 falls apart that makes a lot of scene for them.

RE: Recent Developements - everyone has an opinion afterall
Well,
I stink think Notre Dame is the linchpin but:

Recent trends are that Villanova won't move up and that an unGolden Temple is far less appealing.

Lets talk ECU vs UCF...
I think UCF would have been the wiser pick between UCF and USF the first go around so obviously I still think they bring value. But all the while I stand firm in my belief that ECU was a better choice than either of the two then and therefore, a better pick than UCF now.

In any expansion I see after ECU would have UCF as the next team. But lets get to the fun stuff -

The pissing points:
UCFers seem to be beating the chest about drawing a larger Championship Game Crowd for 2010 than ECU did in 2009. I hardly think there is much value in addressing this but nonetheless...
UCF had their spot in the Championship Game and the Hosting Privilege wrapped up IMO 3 weeks out. Orlando is a damn large place to try to pull fans from on a short notice - much less an extended notice. They have 50,000 students for crying out loud. I was happy to see them fill it up but I am still just as impressed with our own ability to draw the crowd we did in 2009 with a weeks notice and a much smaller local population to draw from.
Can one of y'all elaborate more on the comparison and the factors that existed in 2009? I would like affirmation that I am correct in my beliefs. I don't want someone to think I'm knocking their attendance for the Championship Game... I just want to debunk there insinuation that our showing in 2009 was weak.

2009- Cold and raining.
2010- Warm and sunny.

I'm fairly certain if we had of had nothing more than better weather we would have filled up Dowdy-Ficklin...04-cheers
