It might be interesting to see how people would forecast the order of top scorers (measured in PPG).

I am going to go out on a limb here.

1. Gates
2. Kilpatrick
3. Bishop
4. Wright
5. Thomas
6. Parker
7. Dixon

Well, for us to win 23, a guard has to step up. Could be any one of three.

Dixon
Gates
Bishop
Kilpatrick
Parker
Wright
Thomas

That's the list I'd probably go with also. I think Thomas has the ability to really make some teams think twice about doubling down on Yancy, and if they decide to do it anyway than Thomas can make them pay.

That's going to rely on two things though, the guards are going to have to actually hit some outside shots and Thomas is going to have to play like a 4/5 and not a 3/perimeter 4.

Agree with all that. Once he started playing aggresively down low I thought he was arguably the best all around player on the roster down the stretch.

So true. That big "IF" is so huge. Gotta hit some outside shots. I know you guys understand this, but it's not that we don't have guys that can make shots. They just need to play together and work the ball enough for an open shot. And for the love of God, work the ball inside and then kick it back out. If they truly gel, then I'm not sure who will end up with more points. It will be whomever the defense is giving u that night. They can't shut down everything, so you have to be able to make them pay from either the post or the perimeter. Hopefully this team can get back to that.

Wow - you really see this as a major year for Bishop. Could be. I hope he realizes this is his last go around and shoots for a major impact role like that.

If Gates and Thomas could combine for about 23 on a nightly basis I like our chances.

I think you are going to see different guys leading the scoring every night, so no one will be up near 15 ppg.

Everything seems to go in cycles for me…last terrible football season was in 05 and we went 4-7 if I recall correctly…the BB team made the second round losing to UK. Another bad football season…guess that is why I picked 23-8 on the BB season thread and MC’s first NCAA appearance.

Potential can be a scary word, but our front 3 of Bishop, Thomas and Gates could have a really good year if the guards step it up. I like the way our front court “should” defend / rebound…as long as the guards are creating / driving the lane…should make for a much better BB year. Time will tell.

I think all these guys will be in the range of 6-12 ppg. Hopefully Davis can step up and hit some outside shots this year.

I really see Bishop having a big year this year. At the end of last year, before he got suspended, I thought he may have been the best player for UC. Gates should be one of the best if not the best big man in the Big East. I think we all noticed how much Cash got better from the beginning of the year to the end, and i think he'll continue getting better. Never seen Kilpatrick play but everyone seems to think he's going to score.

I just realized one guy that we all seem to be forgetting about, Darnell Wilks. The guy was a thousand times better in the Big East tournament than we had seen him in any regular season game. I think he could step up and contribute this year as well.

Unless Wilks has fixed his free throws...he is a BIG liability out there ala Kenny Belton. Wilks is just barely over 40% as a career FT shooter...he needs to fix that to play.

RE: OK so you picked the lineup/rotation - how about scoring rank?
Food for thought:

Big East Conference Stats

Points per game lost with departure of Vaughn, Stephenson & Toyloy:
Vaughn 12.2 ppg
Stephenson 12.1 ppg
Toyloy 3.2 ppg
Total=27.5 ppg

Georgetwon (the 8th and final Big East team in the tourney) average points per game in 09/10 conference play. 72.5 ppg
UC average points per game in 09/10 conference play. 66.5 ppg
Difference. 6 ppg

Total points we will probably need to make up to get a spot in the NCAA tournament:
33.5 points per game

Where will the points come from?

Good question.

Well you hope all of these numbers get better, because they can't get much worse:

FT - 63.8%
FG - 42.8%
3 Pt - 29.1%
-1 Turnover margin/per game
1.1 Assist/Turnover ratio
Near the bottom of the BE in steals and blocks.

Outside of rebounding there is plenty of room for improvement. Hopefully this team finds a way to get more easy baskets off of turnovers and improves its overall shot selection.

I really think UC will have maybe the top front court in the Big East this year. Bishop, Thomas and Gates are all very good rebounders and also above average defenders. If they make strides with their scoring that their talent should allow, then UC will be back in the tournament, I think.

2. Gates - 15 pts
3. Thomas - 9 pts
4. Bishop - 8 pts
5. Dixon / Wright / Wilks / Davis - 3 pts

Very close with Gates and Thomas...pleasant surprise with SK!
