Conference Relignment (Basketball), Trickle-Down Effect for Bucs?
ESPN - Andy Katz Blog

Very interesting read here from ESPN's Andy Katz. He talks about potential conference realignment in basketball, specifically the WAC, which may end up having an effect on the Bucs down the road.

Katz mentions as an almost certainty that Denver will move from the SunBelt to the WAC. This is very intriguing in that it opens up a non-football spot in the SunBelt. IF they decide to fill that slot with another non-football school.

Of course, with the SunBelt also losing their other non-FB school (New Orleans), they could decide to fill that slot with another football school. That would give them 12 members, and the opportunity to play a championship game. In that scenario, I would look for them to go after LA Tech, Georgia State, Appalachian State, or our A-Sun buddy Kennesaw State.

Georgia State is sitting on a six-year obligation to the CAA and frankly, the CAA is a ton better deal than Sunbelt at this point. Really don't see App being interested in the Sunbelt.

My prediction is that there will be a new FBS conference formed from a split off of the CUSA and the Sunbelt will end up losing more schools to a football-focused conference. I could be wrong.

I forsee a conference forming on the Non-Texas C-USA schools, ECU, Marshall, Memphis, UAB, Southern Miss and UCF lining up a new conference with App, Ga Southern, MTSU, Troy, WKU and South Alabama. Of course is Memphis ever gets its' act together in football then they'll head to the Big East VERY SOON.

Mistake
Will anyone from the powers that be ever admit to the ASun mistake? Is ETSU stuck in this thing forever?

When new conferences form, will ETSU be positioned to take advantage of opportunities? What are ETSU's contingency plans? I know better than to think ETSU is watching from the sideline without any agenda to better itself.

Where are my ETSU dreamers? They got Jimmy Quillen to get the Teague Cranston Act through congress...can't they get ETSU on the map athletically?

Arise you ETSU dreamers and get back to work. Make ETSU be all it can be. Big time athletics has to be part of the equation.

P.S. Why doesn't ETSU take a role in forming a new conference? It could be customized for travel, TV and all the rest. You have to think ahead to shed the rinky dink mentality.

I think that they have to have realized the mistake but now their egos prevent them form admitting it. I have reached the conclusion that it will take a new President to clean up the athletic mess and that is where alumni and fans have to have large impact in getting a progressive, capable President who realizes part of his job is having people who can manage major college athletics. The dream is still alive!

Ga. State does have a commitment to the CAA. The CAA schools want GA. State because they can't wait to recuit Georgia for ballplayers.
Living in the Atlanta metro region, I can truly say having football has raised GA. State's profile. Football matters.
The Sunbelt is not looking for another member unless they play football. That was one of the major reasons Univ. of South Alabama added football. ETSU and USA are peer institutions. In theory anyway.
Personally, I don't believe Stanton/Mullins reget for one moment dropping football. No football means mo money for tennis and golf. No football means Stanton can play bridge or take a nap or Saturday afternoon.
Both must go!
