Wins vs. Losses
Do any of you out there get frustrated with yourself that Huskie losses hurt worse in comparison that wins get you fired up?

I celebrate and savior all Huskie wins, but the frustration of their losses tend to get to me more than the elation of a win makes me happy. For instance, with all the success we are having, I keep replaying and want back the Iowa State & Illinios games when I know I should be thrilled and excited how the year is going.

Anyways, Go Huskies

Coaches and players learn to let go of such games during the season. It can drag down the positive energies needed when preparing for the next game.

Strangely for fans it may often be more difficult since we are not as focused today as they are on the next challenge in front of them.

Wanna feel worse? ISU beat Texas...imagine what an NIU win vs Cyclones would now mean in Final Polls?

Further imagine this ....and what a few super players and one year means to a program.

Last season CMU beat MSU.

Best not to dwell too much on what has gone under the bridge.

The highs and lows are huge - emotionally speaking.(Dog Fan spoke of this earlier in the season) Maybe that's why NIU football is so addicting for me. There is nothing like the high of beating ...say...Toledo. And the low of losing to them is really low. Like for DAYS I feel crappy. I felt really crappy about our loss in Chambana for days. But Cybes is right - you gotta - for your own sanity - learn to let it go. Try to focus on the "high" of our wins. I think we all understand "wanting back" those games with Iowa State & Illness...but we can't change the past. We have to enjoy what we have and keep looking forward. And learn from our past mistakes and try not to repeat them. I think all of us understand & feel like you're feeling from time to time.

The key is to enjoy the good as much as you can. The homestand was extremely satisfying with second half dominance. Beat WMU and set up a showdown with Toledo. I hope Huskie Stadium gets packed on national TV and is rockin.

I admit that losses get me down too. But I am not going to get all depressed about ISU beating Texas, and get all worried about the national ranking that could have been.

Kill's Grady experiment did not work, but the Huskies have recovered rather nicely since then. The ISU win over Texas at least gives me the comfort of knowing that the ISU team that beat the Huskies was much improved over 2009. Illinois has also shown themselves to be a better team that we thought they were, so that takes away some of the sting of losing those games.

RE: Wins vs. Losses
Chicago.. it has more to do with the teams we've won and lost against.

We've beat MAC teams and a team that lost to South Dakota.
We've lost to teams that would have been big wins and led to a big season.

If we win those games against UofI or Iowa State I imagine you'd have been plenty excited.

agreed, Toledo is the next chance to get real excited about a win, being on TV and as long as we win this weekend (a fairly big if still) it will be for the MAC west.

RE: Wins vs. Losses
Back when winning was less familiar I found it easier to really relish them.

One thought about the highs not being so high and the lows being lower- maybe it's the difference between saying you expect to win and really having that expectation. Same thing with losing- it's harder to get upset about losses when there are a lot of them and you at least kind of expect them.

Or maybe winning is like a drug- it takes more, and more intense/wins, to get the same high as you build up a tolerance to it.
