CFN MAC mid-season Top 10 Players
I would have guessed Harnish would be the top ranked player in the MAC based on a few weeks of simply outstanding performances and multiple player of the week honors. Unfortunately, Harnish is not even considered in the top 10. Spann is ranked number 1

Ten Best MAC Players of the Midseason
1. RB Chad Spann, Sr. Northern Illinois
2. DE Roosevelt Nix, Fr. Kent State
3. LB Brian Wagner, Soph. Akron
4. WR Kamar Jorden, Sr. Bowling Green
5. QB Alex Carder, Soph. Western Michigan
6. LB Dwayne Woods, Soph. Bowling Green
7. DE Robert Eddins, Sr. Ball State
8. S Brian Lainhart, Sr. Kent State
9. S Davonte Shannon, Sr. Buffalo
10. WR Jordan White, Sr. Western Michigan

The only rankings that matter are the ones at the end of the season.

Spann is the obvious choice, but Harnish deserves a spot on that list too.

Spann is definitely the right choice, but Harnish should be on there somewhere. Spann makes Harnish job so much easier, even when he doesn't have a huge game, him being there is still a big deal.

I know nothing about the other 9 guys on the list, but I am comfortable in stating that any list that does not include Chandler Harnish is simply erroneous.

RE: CFN MAC mid-season Top 10 Players
Carder's a joke. Toledo tore him up. Yeah, he passed for a lot of yards.....but that's because he threw the ball like 62 times in the game. He threw something like 4 INT's and fumbled twice for 6 turnovers in that game. He's an okay QB, given his youth, but not one of the top 10 players in the MAC this year.

Kent State's Roosevelt Nix is #2? Toledo has major offensive problems and we scored 34 points against Nix and that supposedly good Kent State defense. Nix was transparent against us. He had 1 solo tackle and 2 assisted tackles. Big deal. Can't believe that is worthy of the #2 player in the MAC.

Well either him or Harnish. Chandler Harnish should be in the top three without question. Akron's LB is #3? I think they are 113th in the nation in scoring defense. A QB that Harnish has outproduced in every possible way is #5?

And you didnt even count the huge rushing totals that Harnish has for a QB.

2 players from Bowling Green.
You would think that they would be 3-0 in Conference.

RE: CFN MAC mid-season Top 10 Players
Obviously, the guy who did this ranking, just looked at the MAC tackle stat leaders.

TACKLES (All positions)
Player Team Cl G Pos Solo Ast Total Avg/G Sack
-----------------------------------------------------------
1. WOODS, Dwayne.. BGSU SO 7 LB 31 50 81 11.6 1.5
2. WAGNER, Brian.. UA SO 7 DE 36 38 74 10.6 0.0

But I think if they voted for the Verne Smith right now, Harnish would win it and he is not even in the Top 10 on this list? Something's wrong with that.

Look at these stats from MAC only games, and tell me the WMU QB should be on any list ahead of Harnish. Carder has more INTs than TD's.

PASS EFFICIENCY Team Cl G Att Cmp Int Pct. Yds TD Eff.
-------------------------------------------------------------
1. HARNISH, Chand. NIU JR 3 71 49 2 69.0 652 7 173.1
2. DYSERT, Zac.... MIA SO 3 118 76 1 64.4 857 5 137.7
3. GILLETT, Alex.. EMU SO 4 98 55 4 56.1 752 7 136.0
4. JACKSON, Boo... OHIO SR 4 86 55 5 64.0 592 6 133.2
5. DANTIN, Austin. UT SO 3 80 53 3 66.3 504 4 128.2
6. CARDER, Alex... WMU SO 2 93 60 4 64.5 668 2 123.3

Lol. That doesn't always dictate things. For instance, during Barry Church's whole career at Toledo we sucked. The defense was terrible, but Church was very deserving of being First Team All-MAC all four years.

This year Toledo is 3-0 in the MAC, but we have no one on this top ten list and I can't argue with that. Our defense is playing well, but it's really a team effort. I think Desmond Marrow is one of the best cover corners in the league, but after the first few games you haven't heard his name much because the opposing QB's have stopped throwing the ball his way. He had 3 or 4 INT's, including one going back for a TD, in the first couple of games and then the other team's stopped throwing to his side of the field. So his overall stats don't back up a Top Ten player ranking.

Offensively, I don't think we've had anyone stand out other than Eric Page at wide receiver. He should probably be in the Top Ten, but I can't really argue it. He's on pace to have about 100 receptions with over 1,000 yards receiving and he's returned a kick off for a TD and a couple others past mid-field, but he's only got 2 receiving TD's and 3 total.

After those two, there are not any stars on Toledo's team. We just have a lot of good young talent at all positions, with some pretty good depth. Been a long time since I've been able to say that.
