Great job HMM!

I think we should also get the cheerleaders involved.
The message to students needs to be loud and clear.
NIU football is the fun place to be.
Be there or be square!

Weather for homecoming is going to be as perfect as it can possibly be, highs 65-70, sunny, light southwest winds.

RE: Attendance for HC.
This is a topic which continues to travel round and round every so often.

I suspect "only" about 16 to 18 000 of the enrolled 24,000 students live on or near campus.

One in four apparently attended the game vs Doomed Temple.

I expect homecoming attendance to be 24,000 of which maybe 100 will be from UB.

I have stopped trying to figure out why numbers are so low and how to fix it.

It's an exercise in futility. Just keep on thinking about winning is all I now focus on.

I asked the athletic department to help me fund a vehicle wrap for the Huskie Sprinter and they told me they could not help fund it. Not sure why, but it would be a driving billboard that thousands of people would see every game I drive to. All this for a grand or two sounds like a cheap price to pay. Oh well, I am going to look for sponsors from businesses around DeKalb.

BTW:

1) I dont oppose the practice but what percentage of fans really give a fat rats arse which tune receives more text message votes? Is it ok to text during sex?

2) Thanx Marching Huskies for an "OK" halftime show. What's in store for Homecoming? Anything clever, special or
original? Is there a "theme" to Hcoming?
Why wear black during the game in hot weather?

3) a. Why does NIU color guard carry flags either blue and orange , orange and yellow or purple and whatever?

b. Are there no suitable red /silver/black/white flags for color guards/twirlers?

c. Why are silverettes called silverettes. They wear no silver and rarely use silver pompons?

i can tell you that the standard "silk" (that's what you call the fabric part of the flag) they use for pregame is, in fact, red and black. unfortunately, they're about four years old and have faded enough to make it look navy blue and orange-ish. the school won't pay for new silks, and they're not the cheapest thing in the world...

as for the other color silks they'll use occasionally for halftime, they are old "show silks" for actual productions the band would do and are designed to emphasize the theme of the show. since they're not used as often as the "red and black" silks, they are in better condition and they've been switching them out.

just an FYI :)

RE: Attendance for HC.
The people in the band have been asking for more current music, but that is hard to come by with the director. for his first few years there we couldn't have any hip hop cause he "didn't have anyone that could write it." If you are ever looking for a full hip hop or pop show, it's not going to happen with him there. That's just not his style, he is all about the latin jazz junk and being a cookie cutter band.

For him basically not making mistakes is his thing, it's not taking chances that could make the band different and set them apart. In my time in the band there were a lot of great ideas from a lot of people that were pushed to the side because it could have upset someone. The band feels the way everyone does about updating music and just keeping it fresh, but good luck with that

Our band sounds great! At that Illinois game I couldnt believe how good our band sounded for the numbers that were in it, we sounded better than the Illinois band. One thing I hate is the 3rd down song when NIU has the ball, Im so tired of that thing!

I think "Hey Baby" and "Just a Gigolo" have been played by every band for 25+ yrs. Illini and many others have done the Imperial March thing since Empire Strikes Back.

I think they just stopped playing Ghostbusters.

While "Boiler Up" is one if the worst cheers I ever hear, did like it when Purdue played "Train Train" over the speakers.Old song, but students really got into it.

+1 to whoever said we need more rap at the games. Our pregame playlist is just said. Give the players (and me) something to get amped up to.

I noticed in the first two games we've played Chelsea Dagger late in the game, though. I do like that.

Cybes, the postgame show will be a new concept. We have 140 in the Alumni Band joining the HMB for the Frank Bibb memorial tribute. The massed band will perform three songs from that era.

Oh god please no rap, it will drive away the few people that still do go to games!

They played that song so many times one game that I thought I would have to leave to keep from getting nauseous. Why can't they come up with something new every year or play several different songs? It feels like Groundhog Day at every game.

I think the band sounds good, but just think with the quality of that band imagine how much better it would sound if they played some different music that was a little newer.

I'm not huge on rap.. but the old people are going to be there either way. If that's what students listen to, play it. Whatever it takes. If we have to put an inflatable obstacle course under the student section and a live band so be it. Get them to the games.
