Austin was conscious and coherent when wheeled off the field.

Post game info:

Coach Candle commented that they didn't have any definite information yet, but Austin is up and on his feet. GREAT NEWS!

---

Fluellen, Fatunikun, and Green also went out with injuries.

Yeah, Mark Beier said "probably his parents."
Stutz said, "Nah, probably his girlfriend."

RE: Austin Dantin status
injuries to fluellen, green and fatinikun have me more concerned, all looked like knees. fluellen clearly wrenched his acl even tho the announcer said he "took a shot to the ribs", he barely walked off. fatinikun hurt a knee and walked off w a little help but it may have been lineman's pride and worse than he showed. green clearly got bent backwards and hyperextended his but seemed to be less severe. dantin got his bell rung. he was carted or safety as is now the case w head/neck injuries. back in the day he would have wobbled off and got some smelling salts.

From a player need POV, Fatinikun would have me most concerned. Hope all are well and able to continue this week.

From Zach Silka's story in the newspaper:

“Austin had a little bit of a concussion syndrome, along with a little bit of a sprained neck area,” UT coach Tim Beckman said. “More of that will be determined on Monday, but all X-rays were negative.”

Very, very good news.

"sprained neck"

He's going to be needing some side mirrors on his helmut for a couple weeks.

That really doesn't provide much information. I'm assuming that he also had an MRI which would determine if there was any spinal cord/nerve damage.

Maybe if he his hurt then Toledo's QB problems will be over.
We need someone to take charge, they both are worthy i guess but its hard to get in a rythm going every two series'.
Limit QB turnovers and put Owens behind center and i forsee a MAC championship.

Dantin has moments of doing well and many moments of doing poorly. He does not have ball control and telescopes. Owens has ball control issues, and needs to learn more how to read the D. Should be an interesting week.
Play calling again was terrible. Coach should never have sent Dantin up the middle again. What are these coaches thinking . I blame the coach for Dantins injury. Its high time they get a game plan that works. Again 3 yards and a cloud of dust. 04-cheers04-cheers04-cheers04-cheers

I know what you're saying but I think it would be good to be more careful how you say it.

Or, maybe our problems on offense will start over again from scratch.

Or maybe we will find out that the QB position wasn't the main problem.

In any case, I know you didn't mean to say that you're glad our starting QB sustained a potentially life changing injury.

i officially hate the wildcat. how many drives did that kill (3, 4 ...)

let's see, we build our offense around a short passing game. then, abandon it nearly every time we get third and short (an ideal down and distance for a good short passing game) in order to go to a running formation w no lead blocker that alerts everyone to exactly what play we are running

+1.

I used to love it when BG ran it with the QB they had before Omar Jacobs. We killed them at the GB and he had, I believe, 25-30 carries. We stacked the line and most were of the 2-3 yard variety but Meyer wouldn't stop running him. That's when I knew Meyer would never be successful as a head coach.

Well, OK, got that one wrong but still... there's probably a place for that offense but third and short isn't always it.

I am not happy he got hurt at all. I hope Austin recorvers quickly and he can get back with the rockets quickly. But that doesn't mean it wont solve the QB situation.

I agree Pono. The wildcat only works if you have "elite" athlete. The only player on our team that could potentially be successful running it would be Page, but he is to small and he would end up getting hurt like Dantin.

So you put Pasquale in there. Everyone knows he's gonna run. But, and Beckman says his passing has really improved, he throws a screen to Page- the defense is a little surprised but Page is eight yards deep so they catch up- just as Page launches it downfield to Greene. I gotta think we have those sort of plays in the book- hope we break some out at strategic times during the MAC. Maybe against that team from Illinois...05-stirthepot
