I think it was homecoming 2008, as someone else posted.

NIU took a whole bunch of aerial shots that day.

Check them out here in the NIU image library.

Welcome aboard!
What marketing ideas do you have to get more students in the stands?

The HMM vehicle should have been used since Wednesday!
Our marketing department may not realize that Friday is perhaps the worst day in-terms of student exposure!
Did they have cheerleaders waiving thunder-sticks or part of the Band playing?
Let's face it, the marketing department must improve!

Our SID cannot hold a gun to their heads and make them publish articles about our program. Some of the folks on this board had the right idea early in the season. Contact the papers and ask for coverage. Remind them that there are over 200,000 alumni in the Chicago area and we want coverage for the Huskies. That will reinforce efforts by our SID and it can make a difference.

an athletic administrator once told me that if you get 10% of your stadium capcity of students you are doing good. Our student attendence is generally way above that and the adm does everything reasonable to accomodate them at a game. I was pleasantly surprised at Sat attd which I thought would be our lowest of the year given the morning weather conditions. The west side came through and there was a nice student population. Band helped but kudos to all.

Correct. We have been complaining about that for years.

After the game on Saturday, we went to O'Leary's for dinner. It seemed like there was almost as much U of I garb there as there was NIU. Pretty sad and disturbing. If you want to go to U of I, then go. However, if you attend NIU, then show some respect for your school.

How did we get 27000 people to a game in the Novak era with 10% or even 25% of our student attending?
Clearly the stat seems incorrect.
Our athletics marketing dept. does not hold competitions between frats or dorms, no pep rallies, no marketing regarding how cool FB games are?

I share your frustration regarding U.I gear.
At least these students attended games and support NIU FB.
Kudu's to them for that.

I'm not so sure of that. Just because they went to O'Leary's for dinner doesn't mean they attended the game.

I did see a couple NIU cheerleaders at O'Leary's, which certainly made my dinner all the more pleasant! 02-13-banana

do not understand your question, there was 27,000 there because there was 27,000 there. There were a lot of students and non students. Those were some big games

Just because we may have had more than 10% or 25% on those days, doesn't mean that isn't the normal goal for programs.

While I would love to tell O'Leary's that, they have no control over it. It was the patrons and not the staff who were dressed in U of I clothing. Even my wife mentioned it, and she never notices those types of things. That's how prevalent the U of I garb was.

O'Leary's staff were all dressed in NIU shirts, which was appropriate. They ARE an NIU sponsor, by the way. The waitresses may have even worn NIU underwear, but I was too chicken to ask. Plus, I was afraid that my wife would sucker punch me.
