RE: Rockets' Dantin, Owens vie for QB job

If Owens becomes the starter, they have to be ready. They have no option and I imagine that would be the stance the coaches would take too, or at least I hope. And I imagine (kind of like the center/qb relationship) that with a little bit of working out with another qb, they will be able to catch his balls.

They will be able to, but it's a timing thing and that takes time....especially when you've practiced all week with both guys splitting time and no one really knows yet who is going to start this weekend. If it is decided that Owens is the guy, he's gotta start getting almost all of the reps with the #1 receivers, because it is gonna take time to get used to his arm. It's not just the velocity, but his release is much different as well.

Pro what? I think any of our receivers who think they'll play pro are delusional. No knock on anybody but we've had some awfully good receivers here from Don Fair to Mel Long, Jr. to Steve Odom who never got a whiff of the NFL.
What ever happen to Steve Odom? Did play any Pro ball anywhere?

That's just 40%. Owens is gonna have to complete more than 40% of his passes if he is going to continue to have success at leading the offense down the field for touchdowns.
I like the potential Owens has, and I'm all for giving him a shot, but sometimes you think the grass is greener on the other side and it isn't. Hopefully it will be greener, and not too blue.
Receivers need to catch the passes.
And they need to get open.
TO smartly threw the ball away a couple times.
The completion percentage doesn't reveal the whole story.
Oh yeah. And he threw a 53 yard (almost) TD.
I'm not saying TO set the world on fire. I'm not even saying he is the best QB on our roster. Maybe he is, more likely, at this moment he isn't or we would have seen him play already.
I know you are very fond of numbers. And so is Boca and a few others. I am not a numbers man myself and prefer to watch the games and draw my own conclusions.
Just saying, in 1 quarter of play, TO looked better than Dantin did in 3 quarters of play against WYoming. That's it.
Maybe he is capable of doing it again. Who knows?

I'm fond of numbers because they don't lie. The final score is a number, and that is the most important number. But I also look at things as a whole, doesn't matter who the QB is and without trying to say one QB is better than the other.......if our QB's combine for 40% completion percentage (doesn't matter if it is dropped passes because we are talking about the whole and not just an individual) we won't win many games.
Forget about an individual. It takes more than one person to complete a pass. It's a team sport and it's about the team. No matter why, we need to complete more passes. Without that the running game will never get a fair chance to produce.

I think he was playing in Arena2 for a while a couple of years ago. Not sure if he is still playing anywhere.
