192 Rabid Fans
Just saw that 192 hardcore soccer fans came out to support the pride of ETSU athletics last night. Are players and coaches counted in this figure? Must have been a raucous atmosphere. Sure it was rainy but we cut a sport that was bringing at worst 3,000-4,000 people to campus 6 times per year and built a shiny multi-million dollar facility for 200 people to use. In what parallel universe does this make sense?

Appalachian will have close to 30,000 on campus to celebrate homecoming next week, but big deal. ETSU's campus will be rockin' with 200 crazed fans for the big soccer showdown with Stetson. That's ETSU pride baby!

When people ask me why I hate soccer so much, I tell them to go to an ETSU soccer match and sit on the side where you see the Dome in the background. Then they understand.

Also the fact that they sunk so much money into the soccer program. Without taking a student vote. While saying they had no money for football. How embarrassing.

I don't consider Socialist kickball as a country-club sport. I consider it the street sport of the ople looking for amnesty and a handout from the one president out th'Sere who is actually worse than Paul Stanton.
I can't hardly call it the "S" word, and when I hear it referred to as Football (or futbol) by an American, I want to drop to a three point stance and drive block their ass straight to hell.

RE: 192 Rabid Fans
I don't have a problem with soccer as a sport and it's not the worst thing in the world that ETSU has a team. It's the way that we came about having a team that's the problem and the way the athletics department tries to act like it is the premiere sport at ETSU. It's insane how much they celebrate a sport that brings no money and no support to campus.

Other than men's basketball about the about the best I can do is be neutral on ETSU sports right now. It's a terrible position to be put in as an alumnus but I find myself almost rooting against soccer, tennis, volleyball, and golf because of the way they are crammed down our throats by the AD. IMHO supporting these sports is a vote of confidence in the way ETSU athletics is operated.

You're gonna get a lecture!!! Rod's gonna get a lecture!!
Come on, we know we don't know nothing about how college athletics finances work!!!

Here's how ETSU does it.... charge students a student fee, raise that student fee over and over again, keep taking the allotted cash from the student maint. fee allocation, add a few dollars here and there from the smucks that haven't figured out that we don't know what we are doing, and hope like hell at least 3000 pay to get into a basketball game once in a while, reallocate the student debt service from the Dome to the kickball/softball/baseball complexes... and well, let's raise student fees again.
THE COLLEGE ATHLETICS FUNDING FORMULA FOR SUCCESS!!

I know what I'd do with that "appearance" of a surplus...

RE: 192 Rabid Fans
How can we fans ever get over the game that has been played about money and saying they have none. FCS football is just not that expensive and the money difference between the 1A game, gate receipts, and BASA fundraising should be easily managed by a competent athletic staff. I would be a firm supporter of the soccer team if we had our football team out there also. Without that we are just not a state school in the state of Tennessee.
