We just had our Dobie ***** spayed, and they gave us a syringe of this stuff to rub around the incision. It keeps her from licking it. It works very well, but be sure to use gloves when you handle the stuff.

That's a good idea BUT, remember he's licking for a reason...if he psycho and licking for no reason then use the stuff but if he's licking for a reason...gotta fix that reason first. Sounds like to me that it may be painful or itchy or whatever so it's probably driving him crazy too.

Lots of good brands out there but I use the Innova for 2 of my dogs and California Natural for my Kyzer that has a sensitive tummy. If you don't mind driving to Olive Branch you can buy from Sassy & Spots or All About Pets sells in Memphis/Cordova/Germantown ...just remember if you do change to wean him slowly off so he won't throw up. Usually it's start with just 1/3 of his new food the 1st week (mixed with his old food) and the 2nd week go to 2/3 new food and the third week all new food.

If you will look at the far right towards the top of the website there is a "compare products and brands".....kinda interesting to compare foods. Owners testimonials interesting too...

Dude, I told you. Give him about three or four pieces of bologna with the red wrapper on it. Then put his his azzlickin azz out in the yard for a whole minute. He will eat some grass, chunk a couple of times, and dig a whole or six then he will be straight.

RE: No joke and not funny
alterego2, missj hit on something really important when it comes to your dog's itching. My dog used to, even completely flea-free, scratch herself raw. She'd even cry sometimes because she was hurting herself. We went through the cortisone injections, oral steroids, etc...then experimented with her diet. It was really a pain, at first, but we switched her to what is called either a "novel-protein" diet, or "single-source protein" diet. We eliminated all sources of animal protein other than fish. It took a few weeks, but it took care of 85-90% of her skin problems. SHe never had a serious skin/itching problem, again. The food is expensive, but no more so than vet visits and meds. It is also much healthier for the dog, if it works. There are several brands which have single source proteins, among them, Wellness, Orijen, and Natural Balance. Many dogs have food allergies/sensitivities. Someone also mentioned grain-free diets. That is also an excellent alternative. Some dogs, while not sensitive to particular animal proteins, do have problems with grains.

Almost all allergies can be controlled and some even totally eliminated with diet..........most vets somehow forget to tell you this. It does take some experimentation but in the long run it's worth it. Always ask it they have samples of the food you are interested in trying...most of the time they don't but sometimes they do. With all-natural dog foods you normally feed less and have much less poop compared to *commercial junk food* (I don't want to know what all they put in that food) dog kibble.

No, you don't. I did a lot of research on it; you can't get much more euphemistic than "by-products." It is really disturbing.
