RE: Touchdown Blazers
It's true.

cb has that effect on people.

Look, BTH, you're a partisan, passionate fan of your team, and I respect that, but fixating on one call on one play that didn't go your way isn't dealing with the bigger picture. Ignoring the other 20 plays where the game was lost for Troy isn't going to fix it.

I want Troy to do well, because it makes UAB look good, (or better, anyway). You have serious issues closing the deal, and you're going to be put in that spot again before the season is over.

However, after I realized it was Troy - 13 penalties, UAB - 3 penalities, I realized something was up. It's one thing if the officials are flag happy, but to be flag happy on just one team is crap. I'm sure we were holding plenty, holding occures on every single play for both teams. UAB's holds just werent counted. good ol' home cooking, eh C-USA?

2009 @ Troy

Penalties:
Troy
15-142 yards

UAB
8-63 yards

Yep, home cooking. 05-stirthepot

Quote:Through three games this season, the Trojans rank 116th among 120 college football programs in pass defense, allowing 315 yards per game. The numbers don't get much better in other defensive categories, with Troy ranking 106th in third-down conversion defense (50 percent), 109th in total defense and 102nd in scoring defense.

And the players aren't doing a lot to help themselves. While their turnover ratio is pretty good, it's offset by penalties, where the Trojans rank dead last in America, getting 12.33 penalties per game.

Dead FN last. Those damn refs. 01-lauramac2

I'm not a football expert, so I need your help. If a guy is on the ground, is he eligable to catch the ball? I've heard people say when he was down, that he'd not had possesion yet, and that's why it was a TD later. Or otherwise, if he's down maybe it's an incomplete pass? Just asking

At this point, I'm asking out of curiousity about the game. The game is over and there is nothing I can do about it, I've long sense moved on. I'm ready for A State.

The ball is live as long as the receiver hasn't established possession and it hasn't touched the ground.

Near as I can tell, Williams was bobbling it around when he (not the ball) hit the ground.

Also, if you imagine the goal line as a force field going all the way to the sky, all it takes is for the first atom on the nose of the ball to brush against the outermost atom of said force field at any time while it's a live ball for it to be a touchdown. That's what they mean by "breaking the plane".

And with that in mind, I haven't seen a scintilla of evidence that that isn't exactly what happened.

But if he's bobbling it, that means he doesn't have clear possesion, right? He would have to have clear possesion when the ball touched the atomic forcefield, nicely put. So he can catch the ball even if he's already down? If he's bobbling it while he's hitting the ground, then wouldn't that mean he didn't have clear possesion of the ball before he hit the ground and became ineligible to catch the ball, as a 'downed' receiver?

I'm just going on the thought that once your down, you can't catch it. I could be VERY wrong about that. Again, I havent been around the game long enough to know that particular detail.

Oh, I get you.

No, he's eligible to catch the ball even when he's on the ground. He can't get up and advance it (which is a difference between college ball and the NFL) but he can catch it.

Yup. Troy let UAB drive 99 yards down the field in 1:09. Tory probably deserved to lose.

Should have blocked the extra point then.
