MURFREESBORO — Middle Tennessee State Coach Rick Stockstill does not know when suspended quarterback Dwight Dasher will play in a game again.
But he does have a plan for such a return.
"You've got to have a plan for everything, and I do," Stockstill said. "I've got a plan (if Dasher is reinstated) today. I've got a plan if it happens next Tuesday. We have a plan for Dwight."
Dasher, the Sun Belt preseason offensive player of the year, was suspended indefinitely during the preseason for accepting a $1,500 loan in violation of NCAA amateurism legislation. The usual penalty for such a violation is a 30 percent reduction in the number of games in a season (equal to three or four games), but it can be adjusted either higher or lower.
Dasher sat out MTSU's 24-17 loss to Minnesota last week. The Blue Raiders host Austin Peay on Saturday at 6 p.m., and Dasher remains suspended for the game.
At MTSU's weekly press conference on Tuesday, Stockstill said he was optimistic that the NCAA would announce its decision on Dasher this week. But Stockstill added that he has no updates on the process.
Dasher continues to practice with the team. Sophomore Logan Kilgore, who started MTSU's season opener, is listed as the starter against Austin Peay. Junior Jeff Murphy is listed as the backup.
