MT hopes for news on Dasher this week
MURFREESBORO — Middle Tennessee State Coach Rick Stockstill does not know when suspended quarterback Dwight Dasher will play in a game again.

But he does have a plan for such a return.

"You've got to have a plan for everything, and I do," Stockstill said. "I've got a plan (if Dasher is reinstated) today. I've got a plan if it happens next Tuesday. We have a plan for Dwight."

Dasher, the Sun Belt preseason offensive player of the year, was suspended indefinitely during the preseason for accepting a $1,500 loan in violation of NCAA amateurism legislation. The usual penalty for such a violation is a 30 percent reduction in the number of games in a season (equal to three or four games), but it can be adjusted either higher or lower.

Dasher sat out MTSU's 24-17 loss to Minnesota last week. The Blue Raiders host Austin Peay on Saturday at 6 p.m., and Dasher remains suspended for the game.

At MTSU's weekly press conference on Tuesday, Stockstill said he was optimistic that the NCAA would announce its decision on Dasher this week. But Stockstill added that he has no updates on the process.

Dasher continues to practice with the team. Sophomore Logan Kilgore, who started MTSU's season opener, is listed as the starter against Austin Peay. Junior Jeff Murphy is listed as the backup.

It really sucks he has gotten all caught up in this mess. Middle would have beaten Minn. with Dasher at the helm. Book it.

Not likely. No way does Dasher make the throws Kilgore did. Plus Dasher wasn't going to stop their running game.

I try not to play the what if game, but I can't help but feel that with Dasher in there, he would have extended some drives. We went like 1-8 on 3rd down, with Dasher out there we definitely do better in that department and keeping their defense on the field would only be a good thing. Despite having the ball for less than fifteen minutes, they used a timeout twice to try and slow us down when we were driving.

I don't know if Dasher would have made the difference or not, but I do know that Kilgore looked like he'll be more than able to take the reigns for however long Dasher is out.

Kilgore really impressed me with some of his passing. He was threading the needle several times during the MN game.

No, but it isn't like he is a horrible passer or something. Plus his feet make the defense concentrate on him more which would have opened up the passing game more.

This.

I guess everybody could be wrong and the projected best player in the SBC might not have made a difference at all. 01-wingedeagle Could he have made the same throws as Kilgore? Probably not. Would he have had too? Nope. Defenses will have to play us completely different with him in the game. They would have to respect the read more which would have lead to better runs by the RB's(which were pretty good anyway. We averaged 6.1 per.) and opens up the pass more. Third down is a different animal in with him in the game. Oh and he did throw for 2500yds last year. I think we stay on the field more if he is in. However I'm with Pikapp in that I don't like to play the what if game. We lost and thats that. On to the next one. We have a SBC championship to try and win. 05-stirthepot

Wasn't like Dwight wasn't the pre-season Offensive Player of the Year or anything.

Dwight plays, it makes a difference. No doubt about it.

But he made the wrong decision, and them's the breaks.
