VCU POSTS 2-0 SHUTOUT AGAINST COASTAL CAROLINA
RICHMOND, Va. – After suffering a heartbreaking double-overtime loss in its season opener Saturday versus Florida Gulf Coast, Virginia Commonwealth University regrouped Monday and posted a 2-0 shutout against Coastal Carolina University in the final game of the Richmond Marriott Classic presented by Adidas.
VCU improves to 1-1-0 on the season, while Coastal Carolina falls to 0-2-0 after dropping both of its games this weekend.
ODU Defeats Florida Gulf Coast To Win VCU Classic
RICHMOND, VA--Sophomore s Chris Harmon (Downingtown, PA.) and Jordan LeBlanc (Haverford, PA.) each scored a goal to lead the Old Dominion University Monarchs (2-0) to 2-0 victory over Florida Gulf Coast and the VCU Soccer Classic title.
Harmon was named the Tournament MVP as he scored two game winning goals. Joining him on the All-Tournament squad was LeBlanc, senior Adam Roscioli (Forest, Va.) and freshman Ryan Oakes (Virginia Beach, Va.)
The Eagles, located in Fort Meyers, Fl. and members of the Atlantic Sun Conference defeated VCU on Saturday, fall to 1-1.
Both ODU goals came early in the match as Harmon pushed his through three minutes into the match from about 10 yards out to the right post on assists from LeBlanc and freshman Gideon Asante (Sunyani, Ghana). A little more than three minutes later LeBlanc connected from long range, 20 yards into the top of the net.
The Monarchs outshot FGC, 15-11 while senior goalkeeper Evan Newton (Virginia Beach, VA.) had three saves and sophomore Michael Roura (Middletown, NJ.) one save on the day.
