Sunbelt / BCS Bowl Bid
Let me pose this question...
If a Sunbelt team goes undefeated, do they get a BCS bowl bid?

In the case of UL, if they beat Georgia, Ole Miss, OK State, and Ohio, and all their belt teams... How high would their final rating be and would they get a BCS Bowl bid??

Same could be asked of any Sunbelt team...

Since we are speaking hypothetically, that schedule "could" land a team in a BCS bowl; but it would depend greatly on how those AQ schools did in their remaining games. If all were lower half of their respective conferences, it might be tough to break into the top 12.

Now back to your regularly scheduled conference discussions. 05-stirthepot

well all those teams seem to be in at least the middle of the pack for their conference... so like stated earlier if they finish middle of the road i dont think it land you in the top 12... maybe top 20

in FIU's case we would beat a Rutgers team (Mid of road) Texas A&M (mid of road) Pitt (Top Teir in Conf.) and Maryland (lower Tier of Conf)... along w/ beating belt teams... dont think that gets us into BCS but like i said about your teams should they finish higher in their conf. SOS would be incredibly boosted and land in the top 20s.. also wouldnt be bad if the Belt is Highly competetive w/ each other and everyone wins at least one if not 2 OOC games.

I don't think a sunbelt team would even get the nod if they went undefeated in there schedule and won all 4 OOC games even if all 4 of the teams were ranked in the top 5. Look at the fight well known TCU & Boise have year after year... it's BS... I mean BCS... 03-hissyfit

Once again. Look at Ball State. They had the minimum requirement met (12 or better) until they lost the MAC title game to Buffalo. Now that particular year it would not have mattered because two others were ahead but they were where they needed to be.

Off-hand, if MT were to run the table this year, their schedule would get them to the 12 or better level.

If someone in the Belt ran the table I could see a ranking between 12 and 15.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
And you would still have to get past
Boise State and TCU. And then there might
be others that break out of the pack, like
BYU, Utah, Houston.

Given a choice between BSU/TCU/Utah---
Computers, coaches poll, etc... sorry, but
I don't see a Sunbelt team getting the invite.

RE: Sunbelt / BCS Bowl Bid
Not only do your OOC wins need to be against teams that have a good year but the teams within the Sun Belt would need to have an expceptional year. Meaning your strength of schedule can't fall off a cliff when you go into conference play. That said, if Ball St. can do it there's no reason why one of us can't. 04-cheers

If Ball State could make it in the Top 12 with their awful OOC schedule that year... a Sun Belt team could..

RE: Sunbelt / BCS Bowl Bid
It depends on who is hot and what games they play OOC. If MT or Troy were to run the board (I assume Troy has a decent OOC schedule this year), they have a good shot. Right now, it seems MT is golden in the media. If we screw up and lose to Minnessota, we are out like yesterdays trash. If we beat them like some are predicting (by 20 points), we may move into the Top 25. If we kept winning from there (including a Georgia Tech win) and the Gophers and Georgia Tech go on to have good seasons, we would move up even more after the Georgia Tech win and probably after the Troy win as well (assuming Troy does as well as they usually do). Those are a lot of "ifs," but in theory it could happen.

And I think a 1-loss Boise or TCU is likely to be ahead of an undefeated MT.

TCU maybe based on past rankings for 2 loss MWC teams. Boise very unlikely.

Arkstfan, your info and insight has always been golden--how do you think the overall SBC will fare in football? And what's gonna happen with this BYU stuff?
