Troy has had what, three stadiums since joining. Squishy, squashy, something like that, Movie Gallery, and Veteran's Memorial. 03-wink

it has always been Veterans Memorial Stadium. It WAS Schrushy Field AT VMS, then Movie Gallery VMS.

Yeah our visitor side upper deck is all steel, but the entire front side, bowl, and lower visitor side is all concrete and brick. Obviously MT's is a complete bowl so that stands out and looks great. I'm hoping whenever we finish the facility/stands in the open endzone ours will stand out as well. Other than that I think MT's stadium is top notch and I can't wait to be there with the Sound of the South!

I definitely like the look of brick better than steel; our stadium would look awesome if it was outlined in brick.

Also, is Troy's stadium set up to where it could be made into a bowl; I think that would be really nice looking.

The next project at Veterans Memorial is construction of a building that will fill that open end. From what I've heard this building will house the locker rooms, coaches offices, and more suites. I have not heard if they will be adding stadium seating to complete the lower bowl or not. I don't think we need additional stadium seating at this point, but I wouldn't complain if they did as it would make the stadium look even nicer.

From what I read a few years ago, the metal upper deck near the road is meant to be taken down at a later point and moved to the main entrance area to give the endzone an upper deck (hence all the space between the endzone seating and the two concession buildings), and then constructing a new concrete upper deck where the metal one was.

As far as the open endzone area goes, I've heard different things of what will be put there. A few months before the construction of the new arena, I had heard box suites were going to be built there that connected to the new arena. That didn't happen obviously. So I have no idea anymore as to what the plans are with that.

There are some real fine stadia in the SBC and new ones planned and/or under construction. Below is a link to Ladd-Peebles Stadium where the USA Jaguars will be playing for the next couple of years. There is already talk of a stadium to be built on campus and some information is to be published in this Sunday's football section of the Press-Register.

Personally I think it's a wash between Troy and MT, with the only advantages being personal preference. Troy's is a little more aesthetically pleasing, especially from the outside, and MT has the advantage of being enclosed on all sides. I'm sure there are other advantages here and there, but those are really the only two big ones.

I've heard working media members say that MT has the best pressbox in the Belt. I've heard them say that Troy is "bare bones".

But I do agree that Troy has the best stadium in the Belt.

Our open airboxes at MT are great, however.

RE: Stadiums of the Sun Belt
Having been in both press facilities and spent a lot of time in both stadia, it's overall a wash.

I like what Troy has done with the other floors of their press facility. SID offices, weight room, etc. They've done a great job of using space to create a multi purpose facility within their structure.

As far as the broadcast areas are concerned, Troy has suites on the same level and as a result the broadcast booths are around the 15 yard line. For that reason, I like Middle's better.

The pregame meal is usually better at Middle, too 02-13-banana

For stadium structure, I'll take Troy.

Bottom line is there isn't too much difference overall.

My overall ranking:

Troy and Middle tied for first.

3. Arkansas State: Press box is built a little strangely and there's not a lot of room to move around up there.

4. UL Main Press Box is fine, but broadcast areas are way too small. Good concrete stadium structure

5. WKU They've done a nice job of upgrading and building on one side, but the press area is badly in need of a makeover.

6. ULM--Nice if you like a press box on Mars. Maybe the highest press box in America. Bring field glasses. Takes an act of Congress to get windows open in broadcast booths.

7. North Texas--There's a reason why they're building a new place. What a dump.

8. FIU-Ran out of money before they could finish the press area. Nice suites, but the media sits outside at the goal line.

9. FAU--Just. Plain. Bad.

Of course UNT and FAU are building and will move up soon.

I'm sorry Fresno St Alum but I just don't understand your reasoning that Troy has a crappy stadium. Obviously you've never been there, but it is widely regarded as one of the nicer stadiums in the mid-major ranks. its not the biggest, but I've never once heard of a visiting fan EVER walking away with any impression other than "nice facility."

I have chairback seats on the 50 yard line at Cajun Field, about 30 rows up... I like Cajun Field.. Good place to watch the game, do need better bathrooms though....

I think it's something we all hope will happen in time, that along with wrought iron replacing the chain link. The way I see it, better to have the structure in place and need only a face lift, then to be starting completely from scratch. Hopefully we'll see some aesthetic improvements in the next five years or so...

Maybe a picture is not worth 1000 words this time then. I can only tell you what I see on TV. When I think of the south, I just think of huge football stadiums where college is king. Jackson St. has a nice 62K stadium. Troy=Good mid major in the south. I just think they should have a big stadium. I think it's that it has an open endzone and it would look better closed off. It doesn't matter anyway since you guys play well and get noticed be me out west.

When completed (opening in 2011), the new UNT stadium will without question be the class of the Sun Belt and one of the top non-AQ stadiums in the country. :odie:
