Whether it came from your father, mother, brother, sister, or anyone else, what's the best advice you've ever received?

Mine came from an uncle, best known for cavorting around, hard drinking, and a unique ability to pick-up most any female he ever met.

One night after I reached legal age, I was out drinking with some buddies. I ran into my uncle at a local watering hole. I'll never forget one thing he told me that night......

"Son, always make sure you don't see an Adam's Apple."

Don't piss in the wind. I'll revise that one from personal experience...don't decide to test bear mace in the wind. (seriously, that *!^@ing hurt)

...but it's hard to argue with the Adam's Apple logic.

I don't know if it's "advice," but something I've always taken to heart:

You can always judge the character of others by how they treat those they think can do nothing for them, or to them.

Yeah, I tried that. The dude I beat the crap out of turned out to be someone else's *****. It didn't go well.

Best advice I ever got was to leave. Specifically, if I wasnt up to the responsibility of being a dad at a young age, I just needed to leave because I wasnt really all that welcome anymore.

Staying continues to be the best thing I've ever done.
