I'm sure you guys have talked about this before, but humor me here.

The possibility of football would bring up another issue, which conference to flee to as our current conference doesn't support football.

Obviously looking at an FCS conference... with Georgia State in the Colonial, most people I've talked to on campus assume we'd look elsewhere... possibly the Southern Conference? (Which, as we've previously covered, I'm very familiar with.)

If we went to the SoCon, I think it'd be a decent fit... they have wonderful mens and womens basketball programs... a good league for baseball and softball... and obviously they're one of the top FCS football conferences in the nation...

What have you guys heard?

I suppose the SoCon would be a viable option for KSU IF football becomes a reality. However, I could see us joining a conference like the Big South where former A-Sun member Gardner-Webb now resides. One thing I wholeheartedly believe we will not do is bring football independently like a couple of our conference foes like Campbell and Jacksonville. IF we do it, it will be so much bigger than that.

From what I understand from discussions that i have been privileged to be a part of, we would be staying in the A-Sun even if we got football. The SoCon has already said that they would not even look at Kennesaw for admission until they played at least 2 years of football either in another conference or as an independent to prove that we will stick with football (they do not want another football team backing out on them like ETSU did). We would not play independent because scheduling has become to difficult for 1AA independent schools. We also have a 5 year contract with a multi-million dollar fine for pulling out of the A-Sun. Finally the Big South has already extended an invitation and would welcome another Football only member (Stony Brook in NY already plays as a football only member and many other schools play as wrestling only members in the Big South so this would be nothing new). Then after our 2 years are up we can look at the possibility of a move to either the SoCon or small FBS conference such as the Sunbelt or dare I say it Big East (I know this is major speculation but they are extremely interested in getting a part of the ATL TV share. This leaves two possible candidates GSU and KSU.) We would then pay the smaller fine to break our contract with the A-Sun, but either conference would be a major upgrade and worth the breach.

Can't wait for Papp to announce the hiring of KSU's new football coach in September!

OWLREF...do you know something we all don't? Man I got so excited reading that post.

I sincerely hope that September 1st is the date we're waiting for. We've waited long enough.

Until then I am not going to let OWLREF or anyone else get me too excited
