How about those of you who don't have them yet? Let's start getting them! : )

Maybe this is what I was subconsciously thinking as shortly after I got my NIU plates 5 years ago, I replaced my Escort with a Mazda 6 despite nothing really being wrong with the former.

Oh Ford Escort...getting rid of mine in the next month. Can't wait...although it has 88,000 miles and has never given me any mechanical problems.

My '97 escort had about 120k with no major problems, other than the flimsy suspension needing tie rods every 2 years. My 2006 Mazda now has 112k miles and I fully intend to take it past 200k.

If my financial situation improves, I will for sure be upgrading when I renew my plates, otherwise I will keep rocking the NIU plate holders.

My plates finally came!! Only waited since August 7! The look good, except the red looks a little washed out - does anyone else have that problem (or maybe it's not a problem and just the way they are normally colored).

RE: Get Your NIU License Plates!!!!
I moved back to Illinois in 2005 after being gone for over 10 years. As soon as I returned I got my season tickets and went to every game.

Before one game, probably in '06, my son and I were walking out of the HASF tent and ran into a women setting up a table and a laptop computer. She said she was with the Secretary of State's office and that she was there to sign up people for the new NIU plates. I asked how I could sign up and she said to just wait a few minutes and she would be ready to go. Once she finished I asked what what was available she said "everything except single letters and single numbers" I said what about "NIU" she said "OK" and signed me up right there. At half time of that game Jesse White gave President Peters a framed version of the new license plate with the letters NIU on it. About a month later I received identical plates in the mail.

This past year I moved to Florida and had to give up my NIU plates. They are probably available right now if anyone is interested.

I applied for Huskie plates that read "FCK AKRN", but oddly I was denied. Then I tried "TOLEDOSUX" and they nixed me on that too. Maybe those are already taken 03-wink

Very cool! I wish they didn't have AH on them and said NI instead, like the Illinois Notre Dame plates say ND.

True. I just say I'm AH for A-hole. At least we have an actual logo instead of the letter I in a box and AA for Alcoholics Anonymous. [Image: c_uoi.gif]

I saw NIU license plates in Allstate Parking lot in Northbrook. They had 'HMM 6' on them. Part of the HMM family?
