If TCU, BYU, and the Academies were on board, I'd be shocked if we weren't too. That would be a helluva conference.

1. I'm not a Nova fan.

2. What have I said that is false about Temple? Temple was kicked out of the big east and suffers from severe apathy in sports interest among students and alumni (my attendance figures are facts, not opinion).

3. My description of the school academics is proper.

Stop with your inferiority complex with Nova, not all people who don't want to go back to the Temple Nightmare of 7 years ago are Nova fans.

They were also left behind by the MWC back in the late 90's and yet they still joined up with them again.

They were kicked out of the Big East for misconduct.
They have a severe case of student apathy (huge school, but even when their hoops team is ranked they might only have 3,500 fans in a 10,000 fan arena, and let's not get started on football lack of support).
They usually bring about 13,000 fans to FB games, unless they are playing somebody with a good fan base in the area like Penn State, Villanova or now Rutgers.
Urban school, pretty good school for what their purpose is (educational opportunity for inner city kids). Nothing like Rice or Tulane academically, but better than most of the C-USA schools.

If their students and alumni cared at all about sports, they could be a good athletic school. Problem is, they don't have that in their culture. And the level of play is not a valid excuse, as their basketball team has had a lot of success and they were in a BCS conference for 10 years and still can't bring fans.

AMK, go back to Benchwarmers. And don't EVER compare Temple's football support to the support received by Villanova's pathetic program. There is no comparison. While we may have been kicked out of a BCS conference, YOUR school (Villanova) could not support FBS football period.

Temple averaged 17,000+ last season. It doesn't matter whether or not you include the Villanova game because it's already been established that almost no Nova fans attended the Mayor's Cup, much in the same way that almost no UCLA fans were present when Temple traveled 20,000+ deep to an away game on a Tuesday afternoon.

Temple averaged over 17,000 fans in its first year of even remote success. That's almost double what you're pathetic little program averaged. Almost no Villanova fans showed up for the Mayor's Cup game, because Villanova football does not have any fans.

Temple has averaged over 35,000 a game (WITHOUT Villanova) in a season in the past 25 years.

Temple brought 20,000 fans 3 hours to an away football game on a Tuesday afternoon. Villanova - a school that has HAD a D1A program in the past - has NEVER traveled even CLOSE to 20,000 fans to ANYTHING, EVER. Now that we have picture evidence of the UCLA fans, I would say it's very possible that there were actually MORE than 20,000 Temple fans at the game. Since you can see with your own eyes that there are hardly any UCLA fans. This turnout is similar to the turnout Villanova had at the Villanova-Temple game. It also mirrors the turnout that everyone expects Nova to have at this year's Mayor's Cup.

Temple brought 21,000 fans to a relatively meaningless game against a virtually unknown opponent (Kent State). Villanova had 4,000 fans show up to an on-campus football playoff game.

With a 4pm Tuesday start time - FAR from primetime - Temple delivered the highest ESPN bowl rating in the Philadelphia market since 2007. Higher than any other bowl game that was televised on ESPN in that time.

Villanova has had a D1A program in the past and what happened? It failed due to a lack of interest, support and competitiveness (sounds familiar, huh?) and they completely dropped football before deciding to restart the program as FCS. Villanova tried big time football once already... and it failed. That is a fact.

Yes, you are. You have all but admitted it on Benchwarmers so stop with the charade. You have made nearly identical posts on Benchwarmers (as ncaaball), NCAAbbs (as OrangeCrush) and Owlscoop (as Owlpooperscooper). And this has already been proven.

I have to say, AMK, major weak sauce on your part this year. Last year's outing was far more impressive. You are a huge disappointment this year. A lot like Villanova basketball this past season.

I do not think that you have earned higher than a 6-7 seed in this year's BW Tournament. I also think that there could be an upset in the making (St. Mary's anyone...?) and that you could be knocked out early for you pitiful performance on both Owlscoop and NCAAbbs.

Breaking News: Temple To Join Conference USA
By Mike Gibson (Temple Featured Columnist) on August 20, 2010

Reliable sources indicate Temple will be joining CUSA today or tomorrow
It's one thing when an anonymous blogger throws out a rumor. Those kind of things happen all the time.

It's another when a respected college football journalist like Rivals.com's Tom Dienhart does it, followed a few hours later by an assistant AD at Rice adding the "exciting news" coming later today that Temple and one other school will join Conference USA for football only, effective starting with the 2011 season.

Dienhart has broken many stories and his reputation is impeccable in the business, so his word is nothing to be trifled with, and when the Rice AD says "exciting news" coming today, that's as close to a two-source confirmation as you'll get in today's increasingly electronic media.

So I'm buying it.

Temple to CUSA. I think the announcement will be made Saturday in order to get exposure in the Sunday newspapers across the country. It will be released not by Temple first, but by the CUSA office. Only after it is made official will Temple have some kind of comment.

The Owls were wooed by CUSA a few years ago before accepting the MAC's football-only invite and that turned out to be a life-preserver for a then-drowning program.

The move was first mentioned by a Tulane blogger a couple of weeks ago, and it turns out he had some pretty good sources.

Truth be told, the CUSA Bowl lineup is so much better than the MAC's, it's not even funny. Even if Temple wins the MAC this year, the, err, reward for Temple fans is a trip to Detroit for the championship game followed by another trip to Detroit for the bowl game.

No offense to Detroit, but that's dreadful. I can just imagine the Temple fan now complaining that he can't go to Detroit because the walk from his car to the indoor stadium will be "too cold."

The only way Temple can avoid that is to win out, beat Penn State, Villanova, and UConn and sweep the MAC. Something like that could—could—put Temple in the Rose Bowl or the Sugar Bowl, and more likely means a certain Heisman Trophy for Bernard Pierce.

That's my mantra this year: "12-0 and we're Golden." I'd love to meet the Temple fan who went to the last Sugar Bowl involving Temple (1934). If he/she is still alive and, say, was 20 at the time, then he/she would be 96 now. Possible, but not likely.

Still, if this turns out to be true, I'm ambivalent about this. Seriously, I've always liked the MAC.

I liked the MAC when I was a kid. I liked the MAC when Big Ben was at Miami. I liked the MAC when Garrett Wolfe was making his run at the Heisman. I liked the MAC when Northern Illinois upset Alabama a few years ago and when Central Michigan beat Michigan State last year. I liked the MAC long before Temple even got involved with that conference. Now that Temple's in it, I follow all the MAC games even more closely.

I don't see how Rice will put more opposing fans at Lincoln Financial Field than, say, Bowling Green, but let's face it, BG never put more than a few hundred in there anyway. It's a step up for football certainly and Owl hoop heads will probably like the non-league schedule a lot more than they do now.

If Temple wins the MAC this year and THEN Conference USA next, I'm loving the move and the history that comes with winning two leagues in consecutive seasons.

Temple fans are funny.

I don't even know what benchwarmers is, but sure, whatever you say.

Temple has a very apathetic sports base. That's why you see 3,500 fans in their 10,000 seat arena for BB when they have a good team. That's why they bring 13,000 for FB games, but when Nova fans show up it shoots up to near 30,000.

Those are FACTS. Don't bash me for presenting these FACTS.

Temple shouldn't be allowed to do football only. Either all or nothing, no hybrids.

Now I am an attorney? Sweet, I could use the pay raise!! LOL.

Temple fans love to hide the negative facts about their school in random attacks on the posters. At least C-USA fans try to discuss the issues.

Honestly, who really sounds more concerned with the position that they presently find their athletics / football programs in?

A) A poster who presents himself as exactly who he is - a Temple fan - and points out FACTS rather than fantasies.

B) A poster who has been confirmed to be posing as a fan of another school - Syracuse - when he is, in fact, a Villanova alum who goes by ncaaball on Benchwarmers. This has been confirmed. You can tell quite easily that this poster also goes by ncaaball because he has made nearly identical posts on this site and on Benchwarmers about the exact same topics at almost the exact same times.

The fact that you can't even come on here and represent your own school just shows how pathetic and dire your situation is. You are scared to death about the likelihood of Villanova ending up in a CYO basketball school conference in the very near future and playing second fiddle in the Big 5 to Temple basketball.

You have no association with Syracuse University except for the fact that your school - Villanova - currently plays them in all sports besides football as a member of the Big East. However, that won't be the case for long, since we know that Villanova will never play FBS football and will soon be a member of the aforementioned CYO league that will NOT include Syracuse, Rutgers, UConn, West Virginia, Pittsburgh, South Florida, Louisville or Cincinnati.

The truth hurts, AMK. Almost as much as the fact that, were it not for your daddy's law firm, you would not currently be employed as an attorney and, as such, couldn't post 1,000 times a day as 15 different people on 10 different message boards.

Temple was never going to be invited to the Big East. Too many open wounds from the last time they were in the conference.

I had to think TCU was a long shot candidate at best. I would not have minded if we grabbed them, but I never considered them a realistic candidate for the Big East.

Maybe C-USA can become the 7th BCS league. I don't see any harm in that.
And Syracuse can continue to wallow in football mediocrity where it has been like forever. You surely help make the BE a football powerhouse, get a grip dude.
