I try to reassure Dennis not to worry.

Taking what I know and what you state.

Watson plus say 3 or 4 more recruits.

Add transfers Pollard and Marrow.

Add a couple more who could come from the '10 class (e.g., Garrett Parker, maybe Kinsman Thomas's brother, etc.).

Using those numbers we could be around 10 in October which is not bad for a MAC school.

I'm really not worried.

RE: 2011 FB Verbals Thread
I wouldn't worry about the number of commits right now. To me it's an indication that RE and staff may be working to get kids that are trying to decide between multiple offers or are waiting to see if they get an offer from one of the big $$$ programs. EMU could have 20 verbals right now if they were recruiting DII or DIII players.

Let's also not forget that RE pulled in some decent recruits (Gillett, K. Thomas, etc) his first year and he didn't even get started recruiting until Dec/Jan.

Good points, 'Nickle.

If EMU has say 8 - 10 new players locked up already for '11 (my post earlier), then RE can be generally selective in his offers now.

The I-AA or D-II reaches, hopefuully few, happen in mid/late January when prospects decommit.

Are you referring to Dylan Brooks the TE from South Haven?

By the way there are quite a few of the 2011 verbals posted here are from last year's announced recruiting class just like Goodwin was from RE's first class. Gourdine was already on EMU's roster before he was announced as part of RE's second class.

Dennis, here is a comparison of the MAC for 2011 so far:

http://insider.espn.go.com/college-footb...d-american

Some comments about recruiting. In my opinion, English's JUCO classes have been less than impressive either in not getting on the field, eligibility issues and on the field performance. There were postings that English passed by Michigan high school players because he wanted JUCOs. Whether that is true or not the fact is successful Div I programs are built on high school recruiting not transfers and JUCOs. I don't believe EMU has strong recruiting connections in Michigan that we once had. Take a look at other programs like Toledo, Bowling Green, Miami (Oh.) and Ball State. These coaches were hired around the same time as English. Where are they in the rebuilding process and recruiting?
What other Div I offers are their players getting? What percentage of their recruiting classes are JUCOs compared with EMUs? This idea of Big Ten offers getting downgraded and coming to EMU has been around for ages and in reality it rarely comes true anymore than lots of Louisville players transferred to EMU because of English. I agree English's high school players are doing better than his JUCOs so hopefully the recruiting stategy changes. When you look at the ESPN information note Akron is winless and CMU is having a terrible year yet their classes are coming in stronger than EMU's so far. Hopefully English will finish strong recruiting. The secondary next year will need a few players.

You are correct.

There is actually a crossover, if one diagrammed it.

I believe Marrow and Pollard, if both on scholarship, would count against the Feb '10 quota (taking unused scholarships of those who didn't enroll last month).

[If there were no unused '10 scholarships, they would have to pay their own way and sign their LOI in Feb. '11.]

On the other hand, some like Parker, Kinsman Thomas' brother, etc. even though announced as members of the '10 class would be given scholarships as part of the '11 class.

I believe Parker is supposed to enroll in Jan. '11 as a gray shirt (pay his way for spring semester and do spring ball). I believe this is correct but I have no hard knowledge.

I'm not really sure of K. Thomas' brother enrollment status. I HOPE he is in school. If not, then he is probably not going to be here.

If the younger Thomas has his brothers talent, we definitely want him at EMU. 04-cheers

Interesting, Rivals has him listed 15 lbs heavier. You can never tell by what's in print though.

RE: 2011 FB Verbals Thread
'Nickle indicates that we have a verbal from a QB in IL whom I had been following on the IL h.s. board.

I've seen his YouTube highlight and I love the kids ability to run and his feet ala Gillett.

A poster who knows the player says the kid is a 'great kid'.

He seems to fit the Gillett-Benz mold.

I'll trying to get more info from the IL h.s. recruiting guru.

I'm hoping we are warming up in IL. Kurt Anderson has a lot of contacts there and I'd rather take a chance on a kid there rather then some kid from Indiana or Penn. where we don't have the more extensive contacts.

I've heard nothing but great things about coach Anderson from players.
Both on the recruiting and coaching side of things.

RE: 2011 FB Verbals Thread
It appears that of the supposed six recruits English wants to take on offense, he has verbals for 3 and all are from IL (Watson, Parker, and Iannotti).

I believe both 'Nickle and I feel English will probably take: 1 TE, 1 QB, 2 OL, 1 RB, and 1 WR.

The offensive side of the ball is really looking good.

and on his YouTube he ran down an opponent who was returning a fumble for a TD - it was like more then 60 yards, maybe even more then that.
