New Conference
C-USA is courting some Sun Belt and MAC members which leads me to suspect that some teams from C-USA will leave and form their own new conference. This looks sexy to me:

UCF
ECU
Marshall
Memphis
Southern Miss
Houston
SMU
Temple
Tulane

+ more teams or Big East football teams

God, Temple would be burning the jet fuel with that schedule...

RE: New Conference
Is C-USA trying to get to 16 or do they know some schools will leave soon?

No reason to bring SMU and Houston to cut down on travel. Tulsa is closer than either of those.

Banowsky said during media days that they looked at all the models.....but....hard to find 4 additional teams "that bring enough value" to justify splitting the pie 16 ways instead of 12. (that statement certainly sounds familiar)

RE: New Conference
It wouldnt surprise me if, in the wake of the impending Super Conference and demise of the Big East, that some CUSA schools separate themselves, a la the Mountain West, to provide a smaller more cost effective competitive conference. I like 9 schools so football can be equal, but it may start with 9 and then a 10th is leftover from the fallout of the Super Conferences.

Temple (Linc) PA, MD, DE
Marshall (38,000+) WV-Ohio
East Carolina (50,000) NC-SC-VA
Central Florida (45,000) FL
Southern Miss (38,000+) MS-AL
Memphis (60,000) TN-AR
Tulane (new stadium) LA
Houston (new stadium) TX
SMU (new 35,000+ stadium) TX

Add USF when they get left out of the 5 Super Conferences.

That includes schools who have some sort of presence in every state from PA to FL to TX except Georgia and rids itself of relatively non competitive programs in UAB and Rice...of course Memphis and Tulane need to pickup their programs from where they are now. You may be able to forgive Memphis because of bball but not Tulane, if they cant get their act together, they may not be included either.

I know for a fact that C-USA has been courting Middle Tenn State, Western KY, FAU among others.

RE: New Conference
I do think that in the near future there will be some sort of more eastern based non-AQ conference formed. It will probably happen when the moratorium on 1AA teams moving up ends. It would save money and possibly allow us to develop some actual rivalry's in conference.

I could see that happening. Could be 2 large divisions inside 1 C-USA umbrella or something else.

As contingency plans in case one of the C-USA east schools leaves....sure...that makes sense. But just to take those schools in and expand from 12 to 16 doesn't make cents.

RE: New Conference
IF nothing else happens as far as ECU/UCF/Memphis moving to BCS then something like this:
West East
Tulsa UAB
Houston Marshall
Rice USM
SMU Memphis
UTEP UCF
Tulane ECU
TCU Middle Tenn or Ohio
New Mexico Temple
