RE: Nielsen- Football is the highest priority
They won the MAC in 2005 with a whopping average announced attendance of 10,893. That success brought them 16,132 the following season and down a little each of the next 2 seasons.

Letting Akron in the MAC was one of the worst things that Carol Cartwright did. Kent's only advantage was that they were D1-A and in an Ohio conference with rivals that Akron did not have. That evaporated when a rival school 15 miles away was allowed to invade their market. Chances for a consistent > 20K are slim even with marketing and winning.

Anyway, I don't see how they could ever get the crowds such that the average would be larger than what is now the third greatest crowd ever.
Largest Crowds
No. Attend Opponent Date
1. 27,363 Miami (OH) Nov. 10, 1973
2. 25,137 Bowling Green Oct. 13, 1973
3. 23,158 Youngstown State Sept. 14, 1996
4. 23,102 Miami (OH) Oct. 2, 1982
5. 23,064 Akron Sept. 10, 1988
6. 22,645 Ball State Oct. 8, 1988
7. 22,013 Akron Sept. 30, 2006
8. 21,201 Akron Oct. 5, 1996
9. 21,059 Northern Illinois Oct. 10, 1981
10. 21,715 Toledo Nov. 18, 1972
The point is still the same, but that is not completely accurate. The 2004 Akron-KSU game drew 25,186.

The figures I posted are from the 2009 Kent State football media guide. I don't vouch for their accuracy.

I don't question you. I think I have noticed that before. I looked and posted mainly because I myself did not recall the exact number. Theoretically, we could get a high number for the opener being a Thursday and the decent promotion they have done on and off campus. However, Ohio State then killed them by deciding they should have a Thursday night game for the first time in 13 years.
