New FIFA world rankings
http://www.fifa.com/worldfootball/rankin...nking.html

We move up one spot to 13th, but how is Egypt is 9th and up 3 spots? Yes, they won the African Nations Cup, but come on!

FIFA rankings are worthless, they don't take into account the compeition the match is in nor other factors.

Also, here's Soccer Power Index at ESPNsoccernet. http://soccernet.espn.go.com/spi/ranking...901&ver=us

Somehow, Spain isn't number one, although the site says it was updated as of today. Doesn't appear to be so, though.

ESPN's was done by Nate Silver of fivethirtyeight.com and Baseball Prospectus. I like his style.

Any ranking that puts Egypt in the top 20 should be scrapped.

RE: New FIFA world rankings
I'm not sure why FIFA doesn't take the order of finish from the World Cup and make that the top 32. Then again, South Africa doesn't deserve such a ranking since they got the auto-placement as host country.

I don't know what's perfect, but having teams that did worse than us or didn't make the tournament in front of the U.S. just doesn't seem right.

I do understand that Spain is number 1 because they won, but should not been Holland been second since they made the World Cup Finals in South Africa just about a week ago in the Elo Ratings? England is sixth in the Elo Ratings? What gives with this rakings of those teams by the way?

Elo is supposed to take into account the type of match (i.e. World Cup has the most notoriety), result of the match, expected result, goal differential, and the team's old ratings.

I still fail to see how Egypt gets so highly ranked for winning the African Cup of Nations, but not qualifying for the World Cup. Doesn't make sense.
