$900 million to fund more road and bridge "improvements"? Isn't there enough out there now - and EVERY year - clogging up many arterial roads (while the workers strike for more benefits that most of us can only dream about)? Oh, wait...this $900 million will once agin go to the politically-connected, mobbed-up road construction companies that continually fill the pockets of the politicians until they burst. Now, I get it!!

If we did half of what these politicians do, we would be living in prison. Then again, living in this state IS like living in prison. My wife and I are making plans to soon move out of Illinois. We are counting the days - just like prisoners do on their cellblock wall.

I think we should just privatize all roads. This way we don't have to pay taxes for their upkeep. It is capitalism at it's best!

Don't worry, the state is on its way to bankruptcy. When that happens there will be pension reform, medicaid reform and spending reform. Very shortly the state will not be able to borrow any more money.

It figures you would say this. Get a clue and be sensible, Robert, and try to stand up a little straight after leaning so far to the left that you are hugging the ground. I have firsthand knowledge of what I wrote about, and it makes me sick - as it should ANY taxpayer. The graft and transfer of money by state vendors to the pockets of politicians is astounding. I know what I am talking about.

how anyone can defend Illinois' budget (looking at robertn's indirect comment) baffles the mind.

Here i an idea. Cut all salaries and benefits 10%. If you work for the government, then quit and get another job. In the paper today, they were mentioning about all the teachers making $100k plus. Are they worth it, I don't know. But with tenure and other increases, they are getting paid good money. I am just surprised that businesses still do business with Illinois. If you dont get paid for 6 months or more, how can you make money. Also, can't beleive the unions are on strike. Should just replace them with unemployed workers.

i have no problem with luring "the best" teachers with a high salary. once we throw education to the dogs, this country is in real big trouble as it won't stay competitive w/ the world. however, pensions and other fringe benefits need to be scaled back big time and done the same way the private sector does it.

Can we start by cutting YOUR salary by 10%?

Me too. I even took a couple voluntary unpaid furlough days. I wonder if Robert took a salary cut to help his employer? Then again, would it really help?

Nope. Oddly enough given the industry it is in, the company I work for is doing just fine and are actually expanding. Btw, I recently got a raise. Actually, if I took a pay cut I would probably be eligible for government help so maybe a paycut would have been better than a pay raise. :)

No I keep my job and am happy. Government workers need a pay cut and if they leave oh well. Try getting a job in the private sector. They are not there. Remember this is OUR tax dollars. Rather than cut employees and reduce services, cut wages and keep all employed.

03-lmfao Believe what you want about your cut wages. I am aware that those in the public sector are paid with our tax dollars. The problem is you don't think anyone in the governmeent sector is worth your tax money so when you talk about cutting wages and keeping services, you are being disingenuous. You think many of services should be eliminated because it is socialist and if the services were to be offered, the private sector should provide them. I know how you "think".

Our state is brilliant!

Quote:-- In Washington, D.C., the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority spent $10,000 for a single 10-by-11-foot sign displayed at a highway project, advertising that the $15 million in stimulus funds the District received were provided by the stimulus.

-- Illinois spent about $650,000 during the last 14 months for 950 signs to be placed on 850 highway projects, Department of Transportation spokesman Josh Kauffman told FoxNews.com.

-- Pennsylvania spent $157,477 of the $1 billion in stimulus funds it received on 70 signs for 37 projects, Department of Transportation press officer Alison Wenger told FoxNews.com. The average cost of each sign was $2,250.
