The actual dollar figures of the SBC's contract with ESPN have never been released. Well, at least to my knowledge they have not been released. I decided to do some research and came across the below link, which dates back to October 2009. This information is VERY interesting if it is true, and just shows how off-balance FBS football is. We must be paying ESPN to broadcast our sporting events. And some laughed at my scenario of being offered $200M over 12 years. It seems like the presidents of the SBC schools will get on their knees if ESPN would offer $200M over 12 years, if this current deal is the type of deal they are currently drooling over.

Very interesting read.

It will change. I still believe that the Sun Belt is in better shape than many believe. We have a southeastern footprint and once teams start winning even more games, we will start to get paid. Attendance is going up every year, at least it is at MT and a couple of others. I'm not worried about this. It will change.

The question with your previous thread and again with this one is: Why in the world would ESPN offer the SBC $200 million dollars for property that it currently gets nearly for free? SBC presidents would go nuts for $20 million over 12 years. Why the jump to ludicrous numbers?

Is it ludicrous? The ACC and SEC are fetching over $1B for their tv rights. Why can't we offer something creative to garner more television money? If I were SBC commish, I would be on the phone negotiating with both the MAC and CUSA to put together a package deal to offer to ESPN featuring cross coference games in all sports between the three conferences. This would feature mid-week football games, etc. We have to get creative and maximize our value. Next, we must start marketing individual players in our league. Fans associate more with individual players than with entire teams. Many people wanted to watch Florida to see Tebow, Oklahoma to see Bradford, etc. We have Hilton, Ambrose, Dasher, etc. in the SBC. These three players are going to be electrifying players in the SBC. The nation needs to know about these guys. Market these guys' speed and ability, we will increase viewership by quite a few more households.

200 mil aint happenin anytime soon. Once our conference starts getting teams ranked and winning bowl games more often and going to more bowl games, we can negotiate.
