Not as far as I can tell. If he's getting access to something for entertainment (Band, Movie, Tour, etc.) I can see it, but Bar Knoxville didn't have live music last night (I don't think). While how a "service" is defined for the purposes of the UCC, or for determining whether the TCPA applies, or for whatever, may help illuminate what would be a "service" is with regards to NCAA regulations, neither would be dispositive.

Ultimately, the players allegedly received something of value because they were on the team. In the end, whether it was entry into a movie theater, use of a car, or free entry into a club, I have a hard time seeing where it would matter.

That said, I doubt the NCAA would do much more than issue a stern letter of warning as a result of something like that.

I agree with you. My first comment was that it was a service under law which it is. How the NCAA rules, which is their discretion is totally different.

It doesn't matter what caused the fight, it goes beyond the pale when you hit an officer (btw, whether you know he is one or not). Then it becomes a felony. And once he's down and defenseless and you continue to kick him, it becomes assault with intent which is a class 1 felony.

The only time the police have to id themselves is when they are performing in the line of duty. For instance if he made an arrest at the scene he would then have to identify himself. Irregardless in most jurisdictions it is a felony assault and once he was down and unconscious it becomes assault with intent, which is a much more serious charge.

And, many posters here would be proudly declaring their support for the innocent victim regardless of the facts. Remember the Duke Lacrosse team?

It would be automatically decreed a hate crime and Attorney General Holder would probably prosecute the case himself.

We just have to purge these double standards. And, overhaul collegiate sports with its hypocrisy of "student athletes."

I didn't bring up race, someone else did that. The cop is white, but he inserted himself into the situation. We don't even know the race of the first guy, but again, he got into it with one guy first and it escalated from there.
