RE: Biggest win in football?
Is WMU mediocre and has it been for a long time? Not in my book.

I think the football experience for both players and fans is a good one, and has been a good one for a long time. Can we compete at the SEC level, heck no. But that's not how to define it.

We do a pretty good job of being competitive in the MAC, looking back over our history I think we have begun to surprise BCS level schools on a regular basis. Game day at Waldo is a fun time, good band, good cheers, decent student participation the last few years, a few players making it to MAC POTW, a few players doing OK in the NFL.

I'm not sure how mediocre would be defined, but that ain't it. I like MAC football, and we do pretty good overall with that. Which is what we are, the last time I checked. Now if you are thinking that MAC football in general is mediocre, then I'd suggest bailing on the Broncos and jumping on the band wagon of some other school.

I would agree that right now, we are a mediocre program. WE. I love the Broncos, I am an alum, a grad student...WE.

Every-other year lately, we are bowl eligible, but every-other year, we are below .500. We have not beaten CMU in YEARS (I don't care that we used to own them back before I was an adult). We haven't won a MAC Championship since I was 7. And that year, I got thrown up on at Waldo by a mentally challenged person choking on a hot dog, and I couldn't see the field through the umbrellas.

Yikes - thanks for the image, sharing that "memory."

RE: Biggest win in football?
What one considers mediocrity another may consider over-achieving. It's all in the eye of the beholder.

I also am not comparing our play to the SEC, Big Ten, Big 12, or any other BCS conference.

I call us mediocre based on our performance in the MAC.

We have not won a MAC championship in over 20 years. We have not beat CMU (our biggest rival) in five years.

We have played in two bowl games in the last 4 years.....no wins though and they were not exactly top tier bowls. We also showed our a$$es at the second one.

Our facilities are wonderful. Our stadium is a peach. Our fan base leaves something to be desired but if you give them something to cheer for I bet they show up.

We are not bad, but not great.....just mediocre or some area of gray on either side of middle.

RE: Biggest win in football?
You might be right. Depends on how you perceive it I guess.

I tend to be optimistic and satisfied with a great day at Waldo. I've also had good experiences at Ford Field watching us beat up on Illinois, hang with some good programs, keep Iowa from a bowl season on their home field.

I think mediocre is when you are beat down and not fighting that hard. As long as I see good play, a clean program, competitive results I'm down with that. If we win 8 games one year and only sneak in 5 the next, so be it. If we are winning 3 or 4 and quitting in the second half of the rest, to me that is the kind of mediocre where I'd stop coming around.

As it is, I picked up a couple extra seats this year. I hope to get my grandkids hooked.

But yeah, a championship and a win over CMU would perk me up!!!!

RE: Biggest win in football?
It definitely starts early. You get the grandkids hooked and who knows. Now we just need that type of action to become viral among Alum's and you start to promote a growing fan base.

Start em early and start em often.

Go Broncos!
