I think the sec targeted UNC and Duke for eastern expansion but were rebuffed.

UNC yes. Duke no. Slive would want VaTech in any eastern expansion.

Say what you will about the ACC but they have 4 core schools that despite hating each other with venom, won't break their bonds with each other for whatever reason. You could probably throw UVA in as a fifth and while Clemson may flirt with the SEC, they wouldn't have left either. The ACC was barely on the expansion radar despite poor on field performance.

So you go from not knowing what objective or subjective means, nor knowing what factual data is, to just making up things to suit your needs. I never said the SEC would not expand. On the contrary, I said while it is probably not in their best interest, they would because of "The Big Bang(er) Theory." I also said that just because they expand, doesn't mean that ESPN or CBS have to give them more money, and that they would not have the ability to shop their product on the open market if those two chose not to renegotiate.

But yes, I suppose those two are exactly the same thing. 01-wingedeagle

You sure about that. Because as conference USA commissioner, he was part of the group that made a concerted effort to exclude Virginia Tech, who was a Metro Conference member.

There's no comparison between 1995 Virginia Tech and 2010 Virginia Tech.

With all the political wrangling VT did to get into the ACC, Virginia legislators would NEVER let Tech go anywhere without the Cavaliers, and Virginia wouldn't leave the ACC unless it were to collapse...

Yeah, i don't see vtech leaving uva alone in the acc...now if uva jumped to the big 10, than v tech to the sec could happen. Pretty much the same with UNC, they aren't leaving duke in the acc, both would need to jump to the sec/big 10 if that move ever happened. Now do i think unc, duke, uva, and vtech will ever leave the acc? no way. My guess is the sec loves the status quo and doesn't want to do anything. Pretty much the same thing with the acc but maybe they would have picked somebody other than bc. If the big 10 ever jumped to 16, i could possibly see the sec and acc work together to maybe both jump to 14 as a counter to the big 10 but almost impossible to see anchor sec (UGA, UF, Bama) or acc (carolina + va school's) programs leave their leagues

so you go from making stuff up to making more stuff up, to making even more stuff up, to denying that you made stuff up. Uh, huh. You never said the SEC wouldn't look at expansion.

Why not. the Virginia legislatures didn;t do it help UVA, they did it to protect VT. As long as VT going to the SEC wouldn't lead to a collapse of the ACC, I don;t see why they would care.

Here is how we settle this; find one single post where I said that. Just one. Your lack of finding a post where I said the SEC would never look at expansion, while be proof that you made it up. Then you can do us all a favor and shut the **** up.

While you are at it, why don't you tell us what subjective and objective mean? Then maybe you will see why your definition of "factual data," the rest of the country's definitions are so different. .

Hawg-
Rumor has it that Carolina and dook were invited along with Oklahoma and A&M.
As much as I hate 'em, don't sell dook short. Carolina, dook, and UVa have the three best athletic programs in the ACC. In the last ten years those three schools have accounted for almost 70% of all ACC championships.
And if they wanted to, dook could have one of the best football programs in the country. Why? Because they have lots and lots of money. Large sums. Dook and Notre Dame were the last two schools that did not allow redshirting of football players. Did I mention that they have a lot of money. They just choose not to spend it on football.

I do think that Va. Tech would be the SEC's third choice in the east. And if the truth be told, the real reason that Va.Tech is in the ACC right now is that it kept them out of the SEC.

Duke is starting to spend more on football. That was part of the agreement when they hired Cutcliff as their head football coach. He did not leave Tennessee to come to a perennial doormat...

Bit you are right.
BTW, dook was a college football powerhouse in the 40's and 50's before the ACC was formed and the league decided to reduce emphasis on football.
