Here's an interesting historical perspective to keep in mind as football recruiting heats up. Out of curiosity I pulled up the Rivals Top Pro Style QB list from 2007 and found many of those guys did not go on to have good careers despite their high rankings:

1. Jimmy Clausen - Good college career and will probably be a good pro.
2. Ryan Mallett - Ditto.
3. John Brantley - Just getting his chance at Florida, they're real high on him.
4. Mike Paulus - Couldn't win the job at North Carolina, transferred to William & Mary.
5. Peter Lalich - Has been kicked out of both Virginia and Oregon State.
6. Pat Bostick - A backup at Pitt.
7. Jarrett Lee - A backup at LSU.
8. Robert Marve - Transferred to Purdue after suspensions at Miami, projected starter for 2010.
9. Steven Threet - Went to Georgia Tech, then Michigan, now a backup at Arizona State where he lost a three man race for the 2010 starters job.
10. BJ Coleman - Couldn't get playing time at Tennessee, transferred to Tennessee Chattanooga.
11. Brock Mansion - Backup at Cal.
12. Griffin Robles - Went on a two year mission after high school, now at Utah.
13. Bryson Beirne - Backup at Arizona.
14. Matt Simms - Left Louisville for JC, now at Tennessee where he is the projected starter for 2010 although his spring stats were poor.
15. Jason Munns - Went to BYU then left for a two year mission, back in 2010.
16. Chasen Stangel - Couldn't win the job at Arizona State, transferred to Northern Arizona.
17. Clint Brewster - Couldn't win the job at Minnesota, transferred to Tennessee Tech.
18. Patrick Witt - A big time academic, left Nebraska for Yale.
19. Cody Catalina - Went to Syracuse, moved to tight end.
20. Samson Szakacsy - Number two in the three man race at Arizona State.
21. Ronnie Fouch - Transferred from Washington and is now the starter at Indiana State.
22. Charlie Russell - Quit West Virginia after one season.
23. Matt Ballenger - Quit Colorado after two seasons.
24. Clay Belton - Transferred from Miami (Oh.) to Maryland where he is currently #4 on the depth chart.
25. David Legree - Transferred from Syracuse to Hampton.
26. Phil Haig - Quit the Illinois football team to focus on baseball, was subsequently kicked off the team.
27. L.D. Crow - Transferred from Stanford to Central Florida.
28. Wesley Carroll - Lost the job at Mississippi State, transferred to Florida International.
29. Joe Weatherford - Transferred from Central Florida to West Georgia.
30. Nick Foles - Left Michigan State, now the starter at Arizona.
31. Kellen Moore - Tearing it up at Boise State.
32. James Stallons - Left Wisconsin after two seasons.
33. Nathan Dick - Transferred from Arkansas to Central Arkansas.
34. Ryan Lindley - The starter at San Diego State.
