Recruiting Food For Thought
Here's an interesting historical perspective to keep in mind as football recruiting heats up. Out of curiosity I pulled up the Rivals Top Pro Style QB list from 2007 and found many of those guys did not go on to have good careers despite their high rankings:

http://rivals.yahoo.com/edgytim/football...f8uEYYR5B4

1. Jimmy Clausen - Good college career and will probably be a good pro.

2. Ryan Mallett - Ditto.

3. John Brantley - Just getting his chance at Florida, they're real high on him.

4. Mike Paulus - Couldn't win the job at North Carolina, transferred to William & Mary.

5. Peter Lalich - Has been kicked out of both Virginia and Oregon State.

6. Pat Bostick - A backup at Pitt.

7. Jarrett Lee - A backup at LSU.

8. Robert Marve - Transferred to Purdue after suspensions at Miami, projected starter for 2010.

9. Steven Threet - Went to Georgia Tech, then Michigan, now a backup at Arizona State where he lost a three man race for the 2010 starters job.

10. BJ Coleman - Couldn't get playing time at Tennessee, transferred to Tennessee Chattanooga.

11. Brock Mansion - Backup at Cal.

12. Griffin Robles - Went on a two year mission after high school, now at Utah.

13. Bryson Beirne - Backup at Arizona.

14. Matt Simms - Left Louisville for JC, now at Tennessee where he is the projected starter for 2010 although his spring stats were poor.

15. Jason Munns - Went to BYU then left for a two year mission, back in 2010.

16. Chasen Stangel - Couldn't win the job at Arizona State, transferred to Northern Arizona.

17. Clint Brewster - Couldn't win the job at Minnesota, transferred to Tennessee Tech.

18. Patrick Witt - A big time academic, left Nebraska for Yale.

19. Cody Catalina - Went to Syracuse, moved to tight end.

20. Samson Szakacsy - Number two in the three man race at Arizona State.

21. Ronnie Fouch - Transferred from Washington and is now the starter at Indiana State.

22. Charlie Russell - Quit West Virginia after one season.

23. Matt Ballenger - Quit Colorado after two seasons.

24. Clay Belton - Transferred from Miami (Oh.) to Maryland where he is currently #4 on the depth chart.

25. David Legree - Transferred from Syracuse to Hampton.

26. Phil Haig - Quit the Illinois football team to focus on baseball, was subsequently kicked off the team.

27. L.D. Crow - Transferred from Stanford to Central Florida.

28. Wesley Carroll - Lost the job at Mississippi State, transferred to Florida International.

29. Joe Weatherford - Transferred from Central Florida to West Georgia.

30. Nick Foles - Left Michigan State, now the starter at Arizona.

31. Kellen Moore - Tearing it up at Boise State.

32. James Stallons - Left Wisconsin after two seasons.

33. Nathan Dick - Transferred from Arkansas to Central Arkansas.

34. Ryan Lindley - The starter at San Diego State.

A rather insightful, profound, uninspiring and ignominious list off QBs as ever published

Trend I see, the top 3 kids worked out pretty well, which you would expect the best talents to stick out. After that, the kids who chose the non-BCS school seemed to fare much better.

That says to me: if you aren't in that elite group, your best bet is develop at a school that isn't on the same level as a Michigan or Tennessee and you'll be better off in the long run.

Foles had a very good year last year, he led Arizona to a 2nd place tie in the P10. His transfering from MSU was a good move for him
