Trojan Baseball
There was some talk here about the Trojans playing some of their games next year at Dickie -Stephens. I for one hope that happens. I don't believe the Trojans will ever attract a significant crowd playing at Hogan Field regardless how good the team gets to be. I believe playing at DS a good many fans would attend from NLR and north Plaski County, fans who will never drive over to Hogan Field. I believe we lost many such fans for Basketball when we left Alltel. Folks who live across the river, even Jacksonville and Cabot. Fans who won't make the 15 to 20 mile one-way trip to Stephens. Just my thoughts.

Maybe we should have moved UALR to North Little Rock.04-cheers

Gary Hogan Field is a very nice college facility. Nothing wrong with it at all. Of course, it doesn't compare with Dickie Stephens. It would be great to get some of the weekend conference games there in April and early May. When the weather is bad in February and part of March, we won't get fans out no matter where we play.

They've really done wonders with it, but it's fences are too short. That's why they have the high fences all around it. Pop fly homeruns. That's another reason that it wouldn't be acceptable for the tournament, even if the rest of it were up to par.

Old Yankee Stadium was 296 ft down the right field line (don't know about the new one). Seems like they played a few big games there over the years.

It's been 310 or deeper for over 35 years.

I moved out of New York in 1974. Probably haven't been to Yankee Stadium in 40 years.

Some major league parks have had strange dimensions. I think the Houston park is supposed to be one of the largest in baseball, but the right field line is ridiculously short. And of course, the old Polo Grounds were less than 300 (I think) down the lines, but cavernous in straight away center.

True, it was a short porch down the lines at Yankee Stadium, but it quickly got deeper. A lot of parks are short down the lines, and then get much deeper. Gary Hogan is pretty short all around, and it can't be enlarged with the street in left, and the creek or gully in right. It's okay for a home park, but it's not a park that you'd want to hold a conference tournament in.
