Or Bradley and Loyola in the 50s and 60s. Or SIU in the 2000s (though to their credit Weber has come around, albeit after the Salukis have fallen back into obscurity).

ILL lost to Bradley in basketball last season and while it did probably cost them an NCAA bid, their recruits didn't all decommit and the program wasn't forced to disband, unfortunately.
