Agreed. Now I loved Shattner and Nemoy's chemistry but these guys are definitely more aggressive with each other but its showing each other why they need the other. I find their character dynamics more interesting in these newer movies than I did in the original series.

It makes me want to go watch the original Star Trek series. I grew up on Next Generation but as a young girl in the 90's I never got into it. I didn't embrace my inner geek until I was in my 20s.

Basically, the main villain in 1 was a super soldier, Obidiah took Stark's crude plans as known to him and built a beefed up version. His catch 22 is he hadn't trouble shot his own design. Now the middle eastern guy wasn't a super soldier type but he basically would have bought or stolen whatever was needed to defeat Stark.

Technically, the villain in 2 could be argued as a super soldier too, granted he his tie in to Stark and his dad gave him better motivation than some. He basically modified the arc reactor power into some electrified whips to attack in a different way.

That's not what a super soldier is. Super soldiers are genetically modified humans who get super-abilities.

Hardware doesn't make them super soldiers.

Oh, and since you made me curious

http://marvel.wikia.com/Extremis_virus
Quote:The Extremis was a super soldier project developed by a biotech company called Futurepharm

Quote:The story I saw prior. Ok so basically, in a nut shell, the female doctor was using nano machines somewhat in the way shown in the movie. Her idea got modified for humans but in their testing of use, most died, the one guy that survived was basically became that "fire breather" guy in the movie. He fought Iron Man and whupped him pretty good. The female doctor seeks Iron Man out because of their past relationship and kind of plays him. Basically, Iron Man takes here nano machine extremis idea, reprograms it, and basically now Iron Man can call out a nano machine suit anytime he wants from a hole on his body for them to come back out. He needed the agility that kind of set up offered to take the guy down.

Ok, so Stark made himself into an OMAC. (Actually, these stories ran almost simultaneously. Pretty amazing).

RE: Iron Man Three
My thoughts on Iron Man Three:

Disclaimer: While I'm a Marvel geek from wayback, my interactions with Iron Man have been limited to the Civil War arc and his dealings with Spider-Man. I have yet to read an entire IM arc in his own title.

With that said, I had no problem with the Extremis angle and I felt it made for the second best villian in the three movies (IM2 had a better villian) -- I can understand those who didn't like it. My Brother-in-law didn't like it either.

Given what I've known about Stark in the comics, I'm more concerned that he's actually THIS close, romantically, to Pepper than I was that his suit protected her. Wasn't necessarily a fan of her being a superhero of sorts at the end (but my wife loved it, so there's that).

I rather enjoyed Stark sans suit, having to deal with reality a bit, and really enjoyed his interactions with the kid -- again, movie stuff, and I don't think it would translate well on print.

Overall, I give it a 7 (out of 10), worthy of belonging in my DVD/BR collection. I liked it better than #2, but I liked #1 better -- again, as I'm an Iron Man noob, I liked seeing his origins in #1.

While I understand the context of Stark narrating through the movie, I disliked the post-credit scene. Made me sit staring at a screen that WAS NOT 3-D enhanced and looked blurry with and without my 3-D specs, only to see that scene...

Make it a 6 (out of 10).

--------------

Looking forward now to Man of Steel.

Wife asked what I hope for with MoS, and I said, if it can get in the same neighborhood as Superman #2, it'll be a success with me.

Very excited for Man of Steel. I think Henry Cavill is a brilliant pick. He's not so overexposed like either of the Hemsworth brothers or Channing Tatum and personally I thought he was fantastic in The Tudors.

The supporting cast looks great. I always enjoy Amy Adams and I love Laurence Fishburne as White.

my buddy and i saw iceman today. both our girlfriends wouldn't see it. it was great. i hadn't left a theater like that since the second batman. it was a feeling of being hopeless. michael shannon was like if javier bardem were given the central role in no country for old men. kinda. needed more ray liotta sceentime. more of a character study than a typical gangster film

Death Wish 5: Wish for Death / dvd
--Not bad. But now that I have watched that many the scenario gets kind of old. Although this one had some cool casting. Michael Parks from previously seen Tarantino Films was a straight bad ass. The Hispanic partner cop to the main cop helping Bronson was in Clear and Present Danger and I believe Once Upon a Time in Mexico.

Superman IV / BR
--While I liked the Nuclear Man idea, the movie just wasn't good overall. Oddly, why was his mother showing him one other Kryptonite piece as I thought he used up his last one in 2 to defeat Zod. It was kind of funny that the new paper owner's daughter was all over Clark Kent.

Superman III / BR
--I did like Pryor's character but the movie was a major drop off from I and II.

A Good Day to Die Hard / BR
--As a action movie its pretty good. While I did like the story line that they went into McClaine's son and his actions the movie felt kind of forced to get a 5th one out there.

Furious 6: theater / 2nd time *had free pass*
--Again, as a overall action movie it is pretty solid. Liked some of the tie ins/tying up lose strings between other movies in the series. Interested to see how they tie up the end to a "post Tokyo Drift" scenario involving Han.

Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves / dvd
--Still one of my favorites.

Jackie Gleason was also one hell of a pool shooter. That's why they cast him as Minnesota Fats in The Hustler...

RE: The movie thread
Superman IV/BR
--not bad, I liked how they did the villain. Just a little too cheesy with 80s fashion IMO. Daughter of new paper owner fawning over Clark Kent was hilarious.

Superman III / BR
--Richard Pryor deserved better.

Superman II / BR / Directors Cut
--Zod was such a bad ass. Ursa was so hot yet so bad ass. Lex was as slimy as ever. I did like some of the additional content the DC offered.

Superman / BR / Directors Cut
--Kind of slow to start but the DC adds a lot of Jor-El and his fellow Kryptonians set up of why Kal-El got sent to Earth along with some of the beginning of his issues with Zod.

Superman Returns / BR
--Just kind of slow and plodding as far as a movie goes. Lacked any real action to make it a "Super"man movie.

Man of Steel / theater
--TRYING NOT TO GIVE SPOILERS but it plays out as a Superman I and II combined into one movie. Interesting story points added in for Jor-El, Zod, Kal-El, and the Kryptonians and their planets destruction and the reason Earth was chose. This had not stop action for 80% of the movie but my problem is, it was almost too much and too frequent to make out a good plot. Also, with the casting in it, I would have expected more "acting."

Saw Man of Steel over the weekend as well. I agree with PirateTreasure in that there was SOOOO much action I would have liked a bit more acting.

This weekend I watched the following movies...

1. Parental Guidance...very funny and touching story.
2. Battleship....God Awful movie with very bad actors.
3. Safe Haven...Typical Nicholas Sparks movie with great locations and Julianne Hough is pretty hot.
4. Chasing Mavericks...Great Movie with great filming locations.
5. Red Tails...Could have been a great moving but was really poorly put together and had too many small story lines running through it. It tells a story that needs to be told over and over again, but then there is just too much other crap going on.

Battleship looked suspect.

Interesting take on Red Tails.

Dirty Harry / dvd
--Great movie. Love Harry's stance on justice vs. the system.

Dirty Harry Magnum Force / dvd
--I loved the rogue cop story line. I liked how they alluded but avoided directly letting you know what was going down.

Dirty Harry The Enforcer / dvd
--I liked how they played the female partner angle. Story was pretty good too.

The Avengers, Netflix

Pretty much what you would expect. All star cast, awesome special effects. The most memorable thing for me was Hulk vs Loki.

Monsters U / theater
Not bad but not great either. I thought the first one was better. Movies plays out as a homage to the Revenge of the Nerds franchise.

Matrix/ BR
One of the better scifi movies of all time.

Matrix: Reloaded / BR
Not a bad follow up but not put together very well for a overall movie.

Matrix: Revolutions / BR
Ties up the story but I still think they botched the solution to the trilogy.

Animatrix/ BR
Great overall diverse set of Anime styles taking on "Matrix" themed storylines.

Dirty Harry: Sudden Impact / dvd
Thought the story line was great and the relationship of the characters in the town Harry goes to made it a better movie than if it had stayed in San Francisco.

Dirty Harry: The Dead Pool / dvd
Capped off the series ok and have some interesting casting decisions. It kind of felt to me that Eastwood wasn't as into the character anymore as he used to be.

Caught an animated Tron series up on Net Flix. Has some of the voice talent from the actual movies. Kind of the story of a program named Beck that takes on the mantle of Tron to save the programs from Clue et. all.

Pretty cool animation I have to say.

The Lone Ranger / theater
--I liked it. Glad Depp is cutting down the overdosing on "Sparrowisms." Cool way to tie in Tonto to the Lone Ranger. I thought the bad guys were pretty solid too. Only bad part was a very slow start to the movie.

Assassins / dvd
--Old school Stallone and Banderas (w/ Juliane Moore) in a competing top assassins flick. Banderas was still in bad ass mode from Desperado :D

The Green Lantern / BR
--I liked it, but felt it could have been done better.

Skyfall/ BR
--WOW, totally eye popping transfer when watching it on my new 1080p Plazma tv. One of my top Bond movies.

Goldeneye / dvd
--I love the movie still and I think the 006 plot line was one of the best in the franchise. The upconverted visuals looked good in spots and bad in spots...almost like the print of the disc goes in and out of focus.
