I've heard nothing but great things about this one. I can't remember the last time I seen a James Bond movie in its' entirety. Incredible how the industry has managed to keep that character going for as long as they have.

Part of the appeal of this movie is that it asks itself the very same question. It's a lot of fun.

RE: The movie thread
Skyfall / theatre
--Good Bond tale. Liked the intrigue. Nice odes to Bond things shown in other movies in the series. Cool they kind of discussed his parents, parents house/grounds, and other cool back story elements.
Die Another Day/ dvd se
--Lots of good parts to this Bond movie but it always felt to me like it was missing something.
Goldfinger / dvd se
--Liked this one a lot. One of the better villains and theme songs. Lots of memorable scenes in it.
Casino Royale / dvd
--Liked the movie but I did dislike how the gambling scene build up ends up being anticlimactic.
Quantum of Solace /dvd
--Liked the continuation of the story from the first in some ways, not in others. I kind if wish they would have made the Quantum to SPECTRE leap.
Metalocalypse S4/ dvd
--Love this show.... great nuances to metal and metal fans.
Moneyball / tv
--Watched bits and pieces and then the last hour. I thought it was pretty good and kind of an interesting tale of being a baseball GM. Jonah Hill actually can do a straight part--who'd a think it.
The Spy Who Loved Me /dvd
--Barbara Bach was so smoking hot in that movie it isn't even funny. That said, I thought the main villain was kind of weak.

I liked Million Dollar Baby a lot but I thought the end was almost too jacked up. In the "how can you do that?" sense.
The Bourne Trilogy is probably one of the best action/drama series to come out in the lat 25 years. The fourth one had its moments but....

RE: The movie thread
Lincoln / Theatre
--solid acting and pretty good cinematic period piece. Covers the end of the Civil War up to his assassination.
Black Dynamite / BR
--If you took Undercover Brother + Shaft + I'm Gonna Get You Sucka then you have what this movie is. IT IS EPIC.
Kung Fu Panda 2/ BR
--Better villain that the first one and arguably a stronger story.
The Amazing Spider man / BR
--Pretty good movie, they had better finish the story of his parents like they promised in the trailers for the movie though, or else I feel like they cheapened out the first one.

RE: The movie thread
Cowboys & Aliens- HBO HD
Common plotline of bigoted and rancorous groups to come together to fight a common enemy. You have a beta-male learn to defend himself and a boy come of age. Nevertheless, this is a good movie with an interesting setting and a clever twist. UFOs came into common parlance once humans had heaver-than-air flight and spacecraft. What happens when people encounter high-tech aliens w/o ever having seen anything like this? And how do they defend themselves?
Much more violent than I expected, and plenty of rough language. This is not a kid's sci-fi movie. It's meant to be rough, and it pulls it off. The characters, while in a less technologically advanced era, are not stupid, and adapt to the situation at hand. Plenty of action, and as mentioned, violence. Shortcomings? Aliens vary in toughness to suit need for a given snippet of scene. Some obvious details overlooked (grab their guns!).
Solid B. Worth seeing.
Megamind HBO HD.
Genius bad guy actually succeeds in defeating his super-hero nemesis. We get plenty of sympathy for Megamind, who like the hero, is orphaned b/c his planet was destroyed. Also find that the hero taunted and teased him growing up. When Megamind actually kills MetroMan, he realizes his life of evil isn't fulfilling.
This movie is hilarious. Great comic timing by all the voices. Plenty of jokes for all ages.
The script and acting are excellent, as we genuinely feel for Megamind, and the rest of the characters. Animation is good, although nothing noteworthy, which is to say we're at a level where technically superb animation is commonplace.
I'm a big fan of animated movies, so take that into account. But this movie is great for entire family.
A-/A. Don't miss it.

The Lost Boys / BR
--Got the "trilogy" on BR @ Wal Mart for $10.... First movie was pretty good. I was LOL'n at the 1987-ish Vampires.
The Dark Knight Rises / BR
--Good end to the "Nolan Trilogy." Interesting that tbe BR release audio for Bane's voice was way better than the theatre version. What I don't like about the BR release is the fact they do that 185:1/2.35:1 trading of aspect ratios based on IMAX needs.

Moneyball has become one of my favorite sports movies. It really got me hooked on MLB and more than just the on-field game, i.e. the salary caps of each team, how much each player is paid, etc. To be honest, it's probably my favorite sport to watch now.

Wreck-it-Ralph 3D theater -Really fun good looking animation.
ParaNorman 3D BR-awesome visuals, good story
Lincoln Theater- MUST SEE. DDL is truly the greatest actor in film today and I'll be surprised if he doesn't make history in February. He'd be the first to win best actor in a leading role three times, shockingly he'd also be the first man to win that category in a Spielberg directed movie. Will definitely get a ton of nominations and should probably be considered an early favorite for best picture, but I'd love to see Moonrise Kingdom win and will likely get stiff competition from Les Mis.
Argo theater- awesome movie, incredibly suspenseful, highly recommended.
Life of Pi 3D theater- visually stunning, good story(haven't read the book)

I thought it was really good. Admittedly, I have never seen any of the Alien movies. I think that helped me enjoy Prometheus for what it was. Those searching for answers to Alien seem to be the ones who are most disappointed by this film. I want to talk about the movie so I am going to post a thread with spoilers, I think.
You need to see the Alien movies. The BR print of the original Alien is stunning.

Wreck it Ralph was pretty solid.
Didn't get a chance to get to see Argo--wanted to though.

They got the BR set (Alien I-IV) for like $30 @ Wal Mart.

Just watched the last Batman movie
I read somewhere that said it has a politically conservative message but I didn't see that. Bane wasn't some sort of socialist but an anarchist hiding behind a message of equality. When you have a psychopath like the Scarecrow as the head of your judicial system, or whatever it was, that sort of gives it away.
He wanted to destroy Gotham, not make it into some sort of socialist society.

He was fulling his dead master in Rhaz Al-Ghul(sp?) wishes in breaking Batman and destroying Gotham. He used his connections to Talia(Rhaz's daughter) to get the inside track on taking down Gotham and arguably he was more successful than Rhaz or Joker to that regard. Granted he also struck when Batman was sulking over the events of Harvey Dent so he had opening to take for his master plan.
