RE: The movie thread
Wow... been a while.

PotC 1,2, and 2 on dvd, 4 on BR.
--Love the series but I think 1 and 4 overall are still the best in the series.

Avengers / BR
--Loved the movie...one of the best Super Hero movies because of the mix of humor, action, inside jokes, ensemble casting.

Snow White and the Huntsman/ BR
--I really liked the blend of being more action movie than the Disney one and having more back story amongst the characters than the Disney original. Good special features too. Charlize Theron plays a good Evil Witch and I thought ______ did a good job as Snow White. I got to say, because of some extra story filler I didn't mind Snow White turning into a "Joan of Arc" type character at the end.

Universal Soldier The Return / NF Stream
--Hadn't really watched since it came out in 1999. Decent sequel to the original but it had its flaws.

Rambo (aka Rambo IV) / dvd
Pretty solid entry in the series, probably the most brutal.

Twister / BR
Love the action movie aspect of it but its got so many laughable edits and situations.

The Green Hornet / dvd
--Pretty good.

Despite its multiple flaws, it's still one of my favorite guilty pleasure movies. Really love the Mark Mancina score, and check out future Academy Award winner Phillip Seymour Hoffman playing up the laughs!

RE: The movie thread
I saw Prometheus yesterday. I was really excited for it and so I went out and bought it on BluRay. Somehow I completely missed it being released this summer.

I thought it was really good. Admittedly, I have never seen any of the Alien movies. I think that helped me enjoy Prometheus for what it was. Those searching for answers to Alien seem to be the ones who are most disappointed by this film. I want to talk about the movie so I am going to post a thread with spoilers, I think.

I kind of tried to answer your questions with vague statements about certain events in Alien, Aliens, Alien 3, and the FIRST Alien Versus Predator movie as they have ties to what you get in Prometheus. I would highly suggest watching those four movies before revisiting Prometheus. While Alien 3 offers the least for you, the scene I describe at the end of 3 has bearing on Prometheus in some ways.

i mentioned time cop the other day. my buddy is the vintner at a local winery. i was helping him unload a shipment of california cabernet sauvignon. truck gets delayed, stuck in east st louis. but a dude brings in a fan to reduce moisture in the whatever. he explains how it all works to my buddy (and it's a real tiny machine) but says something like freon. so naturally i say, "you mean like time cop? where van damme breaks the hose and squirts it on the guy and his leg turns to ice and he kicks the guy's leg and it shatters like glass?" the guy went on talking to my friend.

RE: The movie thread
ET / BR
--Crazy good print of a movie from 1982. Still a heartwarming tale to this day. Special features of the documentaries on the making of are solid as well.

Prometheus / BR
--A good movie but not my top ALIEN movie. I think what hinders the total enjoyment of the movie is knowing how solid Alien and Aliens were and the fact this one opens up so many more questions than the answers it promises to give.

Blade /dvd
--Still a real good movie--I just wish they didn't have the CGI let down for the Blood God scenes at the end.

Hellraiser / NF Stream
--Not bad actually. Kind of cool real FX for its time. I don't like that the story felt incomplete.

Hellraiser II/ NF Stream
--Liked this one more and liked the fact they filled in some of the story holes presented in the first one.

Hellraiser III/ NF Stream
--Looks to be good but haven't finished it yet.

RE: The movie thread
Saw Prometheus for the 2nd time this weekend. The first time I saw was when it was in the theaters and I saw it for the second time on Blu Ray.

I'll stand by what I said when I saw it in the theaters. It's the best movie I've seen so far in 2012. I love the Alien movies and Prometheus was no exception.

I don't know if anyone else here has seen the Blu Ray version but there is 36 minutes of extra footage and story that was deleted from the final cut. For those that complained by lack of answers you actually get some (not all) answers from the deleted footage. And in the commentary, of the deleted scenes, they mention that they had to cut some of it for time but they also did it to give the movie a little mystery.

RE: The movie thread
Since it is basically Halloween soon...

Top Horror movies?

MINE:

Exorcist I, II, and III
--Dominion and _____ , the two versions of the Prequel to Exorcist I are good but not as good as those.

A Nightmare on Elm Street and The New Nightmare.
--I bought the series on dvd about 4-5 years ago on a great sale. While some of the others had strong story points in the mythology, basing it on the movies alone only those two were real good. I would also give a nod to that reboot of the "first one" they did a few years ago because of the added back story elements for Freddy's ascension to what he became.

Friday the 13th I, II, and VII are probably my favorites. Although 3 was horrible he did get his mask in that one. Manhattan and Goes to Hell were weak.4-6 with the Tommy Jarvis story lines weren't too bad. I thought the reboot from a few years ago was decent but the "kids" casting and the over use of pot smoking and what not kind of made me not overly like it.

I liked the Freddy vs. Jason movie.

Halloween I and II are pretty strong but I actually kind of liked all of them. III, however, with the non-Michael Myers story line was kind an odd tale. H20 was ok. And the one with the reality tv show doing filming wasn't that bad actually.

Not a true horror movie I guess but The Hand that Rocks the Cradle gives me some goosebumps.

I actually like all 4 Screams for different reasons.

RE: The movie thread
Matrix / BR
--I had all the originals including the Animatirx on dvd but I saw the BR set for a real cheap price and got it. Great print of the movie. I also think they re did some of the green tinting for "the matrix" parts.

The Exorcist (The Version you Have Never Seen Before)/dvd
--Real good print for a dvd of an older film... one of my favorite horror movies

The Exorcist II: The Heretic /dvd
--The dvd could have been mastered a little better but its a cool movie with what they wanted to get into. I'm not real into the whole locust theme for it though.

The Exorcist III / dvd
--Pretty cool plot and the guy who played the Gemini Killer was pretty bad ass.

Shrek 2 / BR
--Probably one of my faves in the series. I'd say 2>4>1>3. 3, while having a good idea, executed it too poorly IMO. It did have some decent moments though. The first one I rate as low as I did because the jokes and story got better with the sequels.

Scream 1-4 / BR
--1) instant classic IMO. Pushed all the right buttons.
--2) Good but the ending was kind of overkill.
--3) Liked the deepness of the plot twist
--4) almost as good as 1 IMO.

Silent Hill Revelation/ theater

-- wasn't too bad. I still like the first one better--its story line was better.

RE: The movie thread
Nightmare on Elm Street 1 - 4 / dvd
--1 epic
--2 decent sequel
--3 decent sequel and cool to bring back Nancy in that way
--4 had its possibilities but not as good as 1-3.

The Man with the Iron Fists / theater
--Visually stunning. Kung Fu cinematography was excellent. Weapons and ideas were great. About the only faults I found were the story was kind of not told as concise as it could have been. Also, the dialogue could have used some work but hey, it was Rza's directorial debut.

Blade Runner 30th Anv DC / BR
--While the disc includes original release, foreign release, tv edit, ___, and Ridley Scott's Directors Cut which has some material amassed from all the different cuts of the film. I started with his DC first. The restoration they did was great. I like the story but I'm still not convinced that Deckart was a Replicant.

Wreck it Ralph / theater
--GREAT MOVIE. Great cameos mix ups of video/arcade games over the last 30 years. The Bad Guy's group therapy meeting was great. Pretty good voice acting too.

I watched Avengers again on DVD (birthday present!). Great. Loved it again. My 9year old enjoyed it too. But I can actually say I like a bigger screen for such an epic movie.
