You're talking about a story that has wizards, muggles, horcruxes, trolls, dragons, giant spiders, giant snakes, phoenix, etc. and you're thrown off by snow in June?

horcruxes, trolls, etc. all make sense within the context of the story. The snow doesn't. hogsmeade is like a 10 min walk from hogwarts. if there's snow in hogsmeade, there should be snow on the hogwarts grounds

Found this interesting as well:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horcruxes#Horcruxes

the movie did an awful job grasping the whole horcrux plot. Firstly, Voldemort cannot feel it when one of his horcruxes is destroyed. In the movie they make it seem like he's getting weaker, which is not what happens in the book. Also in the movie they don't explain why Harry lives after voldemort kills him in the forest. That's a huge part of the plot that was left out

The way that link I had posted read, he could feel it each time a horcrux was destroyed and would make him weaker. I was pretty sure Dumbledor's speech to Harry in that "white out" scene he said he was a horcux but because of the rebounding, unintentionality of it it that Valdemort only really killed his evil spirit that was with Harry. I mean to say how much some of this stuff differs from the books I have no basis for because I have only watched the movies.

Well, according to most people, if you haven't read the books, your opinion doesn't count. Seeing that I haven't read the books myself, I guess my opinion doesn't count, either.

I think I am going to have to end up reading them.... cause the more I think about the whole story arc the more I think the books might offer the background ( i.e. not shown or alluded too in detail) for the movies.

well that link is wrong. I can find the exact passage in book 6 where Harry asks dumbledore that very question and the latter explains how Voldemort doesn't feel it because he's so immersed in evil, i.e. too far gone.

and yes, when he was in limbo, dumbledore did explain to him that the part of voldemort's soul that resided in Harry, had been destroyed by Voldemort. But the reason the spell didn't kill Harry was because voldemort used harry's blood to rebuild his living body. Blood that carried Lily's sacrifice. it kept harry alive, while voldemort lived. So basically, Harry was immortal as long as voldemort lived.

It does because I respect your opinion. At any rate, I plan on picking up the first three novels next week.

Hmm interesting on the blood thing but then.... Valdemort needed Harry's blood to "resurect" himself to a human form. The "rat" guy cut Harry and put his blood into that potion while reciting the verse that got Valdemort back to a human form.

not sure if that's a question, but it is a correct statement. Wormtail put harry's blood into the potion that helped give voldemort a new body. That meant that Lily's sacrifice resided in Voldemort's veins. It bound Harry to life while Voldemort lived.

So, with that said, Valdemort did die and Harry ends up living on past him... since all the horcuxes are destroyed and the evil inside Potter got destroyed. Unless that was the resurrection stone Harry got and that kept himself alive. It didn't screw him over like it did one of the Deathly Hollows as I guess because he used it on himself.

Harry did not have the resurrection stone when he was killed. He dropped it before facing Voldemort. It showed that in the movie as well.

Harry only came back to life because Voldemort was still alive. Now that Voldy is dead... if Harry were to die... he would not come back.

correct about everything not including the ressurection stone. Tigerfan is correct in saying he dropped it before being cursed by voldemort. Although in the books he drops it when he gets to where voldemort is, not as early as they showed in the movie

it's just because it doesn't make sense in the context. Why put snow there? What's the point?

RE: The movie thread
Captain America / Theater
--Pretty solid effort IMO. Only thing that creeped me out was the skinny Steve Rogers. Red Skull was pretty bad ass. I don't think they should have done the finding of Cap's shield in the ice at the beginning considering what they put at the ending. Howard Stark in his mid 30s to mid 40s was kind of cool. Watch the post credit roll for a clip from The Avengers.

The Avengers /animated / NF Stream
--Pretty solid cartoon show that shows how the Avengers were formed in different episodes. What I like most is they have found a way to get all the Avengers screen time without dragging down the action or making it feel like a origin story every episode. Once it gets going with the full cast they have some good episodes. Though the Captain America joining was kind of cool and what they said was pretty close to what they show in the new movie.

For Your Eyes Only / dvd
--I like this Bond movie. The Villain is not quite a super villain but the plot of going for the Lecter was pretty cool. The mountain climbing and under water scenes were great. The teen sensation ice skater was ... heh....

The Karate Kid (new)/ dvd
--Honestly, it wasn't too bad. Jackie Chan played a good version of Miagi..but he had street cred in that regard. Jaden Smith was decent as a fish out of water kid learning kung fu. The "bad" kid was sufficiently bad... I can see him doing some villain roles once he becomes an adult.

FINISHED Air Wolf Season 2 / NF Stream
-- Pretty good episodes. I still dislike that they underplayed the new female character they added. And considering what she did before she joined Santini Air she should have had a more robust role.

Hot Tub Time Machine / NF Stream
--Not bad for a retro 80s themed comedy however they did use some 90s Crue songs! Chevy Chase as the Hot Tub Repairman was kind of a cool small role for him. Worth streaming IMO.... decent for a few laughs. Although they do get into what you do and can get into if you mess with time lines.

Thunderball / dvd
--EPIC James Bond movie. The water scenes, the disguise, the final fight.... great movie.

Dr. No / dvd
--Great plot for a first Bond movie. Dr No seems to give me the feeling that Han from Enter the Dragon was drawn from him because of his hands. Cool Caribbean locales.

Diamonds are Forever / dvd
--I like the main girl in this and the story is decent but the closet gay guys and the overall "vibe" to the movie kind of take it down a notch.

RE: The movie thread
Ok some catch up:

Expendables- DVR on Epix. I was disappointed w/ this movie. It wasn't terrible, but felt disjointed, and the scenes just seemed pieced together. I liked the scene w/ Arnold, Bruce and Sly, but it didn't carry the movie. The ending scene was a bit saccharine, but would have been ok if I cared about the characters. The last line was terrible.

Jet Li definitely had the best part in the film, "I would have win."

Inception- DVD. Great execution of a concept. Liked the characters, liked the premise, loved the effects. However, the ending was very weak, reminded me of a student film. There was room for a big twist here, a la Shyamalan, but even if you let that pass, you gotta choose how you end this. Leaving the audience wondering is amateur.

Chicken Little- DVD. Ok, this is relatively old, but we liked it quite a bit first time we saw it (my son was about 4 at the time, and he became inspired to play dodge ball). This time around, I liked it as much or more. The cast was top rate, and it showed (or perhaps could be heard). Delivery was excellent throughout. The plot and scripts were very, very good, w/ a very understandable and uplifting subtext.
This movie doesn't get high marks on imdb, and I never heard much about it at the time. But, I'd say it's Pixar quality in every aspect.

Highlander: The Source-(SyFy broadcast) It's hard to believe that each and every Highlander sequel begs the question, "Is this the worst film ever?" and poses a legitimate shot at the title. Alas, there can be only one, and this isn't it. It isn't worse than Highlander II, but it is terrible. I truly believe that this is the student script from the son of a connected producer. The cast comes from the TV show (which actually was a highly entertaining response to the movie), but they are uninspired. The script is terrible, and the delivery seems rushed at the end of the scene, after each and every scene has been stretched to tedium in order to build the suspense. Like the other sequels, this storyline makes little sense, (but it is slightly more coherent than II). Worst of all, they re-recorded the soundtrack music. It seemed as if they didn't have the rights to the original, but there is little worse than reinterpreting the pinnacle album of Queen's history. If you have an unwelcome house guest, insist on watching this.

The Sorcerer's Apprentice- I didn't want to hate this movie, but I did. We almost gave up on this dog more than once, but persisted. Don't get me wrong, Nic Cage does his standard job, which is very strong. But the character of Dave the apprentice, is horrific. From the dialogue to the casting, you have a hard time finding a more annoying protagonist. Several times I found myself wondering if having the most hideous evil take control of the Earth would really be worse than watching Dave.

In the end the loser here, other than the audience, is Cage. He needed a winner to get out of debt, and Disney gave him a raw deal.

RE: The movie thread
Watched Source Code on Friday; loved it as much as I did in the theaters.

Watched Limitless on Saturday, and I enjoyed it; not as much as Source Code, but it was entertaining nonetheless.

Watched Captain America: The First Avenger today, and I loved the hell out of it.
